Only if you are appropriating the language of an experience that is not your own. Intersex refers to a set of common experiences and medicalization that you can only experience if you were diagnosed with a certain group of conditions. It is not the same thing and it is dangerous and offensive to appropriate the language of intersex. You do not have to define your sex as male or female. That is your personal decision, however it is extremely dangerous and harmful to those of us who are intersex to co-opt our experiences and language. I have fought long and hard to have a way to talk about the experiences I have as an intersex person and to work through the pain and stigma that comes with being diagnosed with an intersex condition.

genderkid and queers united: I feel nervous about those who are not intersex appropriating this language to describe their gender or sex identity. Intersex people are born into bodies that are unnecessarily medicalized and often, operated upon. We are told that we are freaks, that our bodies are shameful, wrong, and defective. We rarely get to fully consent to the operations that are performed or forced onto us. So, as an intersex person, I do not believe one can "become" intersex and wish people would stop appropriating the language that is very unique to intersex people's experiences. It is alienating and hurtful to those of us who live in this reality. Thanks for reading.

Actually, I don't troll gay blogs, the title of this article is what is what caught my attention. Shame on me for thinking that it was actually talking about straight marriage for a change. Kevin, I forgot to address you yesterday, we are NOT bigots, because we don't agree with you. For some reason, conservatives or people who are against gay marriage are bigots. Goto a pride parade and then you can talk about one. The media shows the "freak show elements" because its what people want to see. People won't be interested in watching or cliking a story with 2 moms or dad marching with their kids and a rainbow flag. I'm with Anonymous. I figure the Gay Pride parades should be the "Big Sell" to show the public they can contribute to stronger family values and sanctity for marriage. But given all the photos I've seen of people running around in their undies and vendors selling dildo ring tosses to kids - I get the impression that's not the goal. In time, they'll probably win and this will be the world we're forced to live in.

no idea Jesus (ironic name?) I've been threatened, followed, yelled at, harrassed when coming out of a GLBT bar or event, and almost raped, and lost a lot of friends for being bi. So I don't understand the struggle huh? Tell me, how exactly do I not know, and how I am I benefiting from "hetero privledge"? If you would deny people like me equal rights, you don't deserve them yourself. People don't stop to ask if you are bi or gay before they bash. And you anonymous-you're just an idiot and wrong. Try looking up a scientific study and actually reading it. Sure there are men who transition from bi to gay, but there are plenty of bi's who really are bi. Stop the hate.
