Word of the Gay: "Handkerchief Code"
"Handkerchief Code" is a way of letting people in the gay, BDSM, or sex worker sub-culture know what is that you are into sexually. Different colors and arrangements of handkerchiefs in back pockets had different sexual connotations.
I found it to be a great way to size up the crowd in the bars when I was in my "hunting for hook-ups" phase. It was also a good way for others to know whether or not I was someone they should hit on.

I've heard it referred to as "flagging". IMO handkerchief code seems like a mouthful. :)
