In the wake of marriage equality being defeated in Maine, and the one year anniversary of the passage of proposition 8, activists are holding protests throughout the country to express their outrage that the majority has the right to deny civil rights to a minority population. *Please notify me of any planned protests, vigils, or demonstrations and I will promptly add them to the list and keep it up to date.

@Tahlib. You know, that's a good point. But how do you propose we get into deeper conversations with non-gays about how marriage equality matters?
ReplyDeleteTahlib I think both are effective and necessary. I started a campaign a while back trying to engage people through online forums, etc but very few participated. I wish they did, I don't know why it didn't take off. I can bring it back but I don't know why nobody heeds the call.

REACTION TO GAY APARTHEID IN MAINE
New York City Residents Protest this Sunday, November 8, 2009 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral
Join supporters of equality outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral this Sunday to show those who oppose equality the faces of their discrimination. Stepping beyond the comfort zones of rallies and marches we take our message directly to the people and one of the organizations that have brought about gay apartheid in the United States.
Protesters should come with signs and their voices. This is a peaceful demonstration, but the anger against the members of the Catholic Church in New York City, who helped by their affiliation to the Catholic Church in Maine pass the hateful Question 1 in Maine yesterday need to know that no longer can we live as a nation that is separate and not equal.
Protest participants are also encouraged to call their U.S. elected officials at 202-224-3121 and tell them that supporting gay apartheid on all fronts is wrong. It is against the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution.

ReplyDeletediscontinue using the words queer , lesbians, etc,... branded by government and blatant discrimination, and stick to the inequality, discrimination issues,as tax abiding citizens demanding respect and equal rights, this issue will go down as fight with dignity. i refused to be branded or called by anything less then my birth given name and right. i would love to march and will continue to stand for our rights as a nation, however i will not march, in a march that represents itself and continues to brand us as Queer is unacceptable and is never going to happen. that is old school mentality and i find this insulting.
