Word of the Gay: "Omnisexual"
An "omnisexual" is someone attracted to all genders, it is distinct from bisexuals who are attracted to two genders (male & female) and monosexuals who are attracted to one gender.
@anonymous ~ sex is biological, gender is socially constructed, one's sense of self as being/having male/female characteristics, or both, or neither, it's basically your classification of yourself as masculine/feminine. personally i reject this dichotomy and view myself as genderless, though sexed girl... get it?
I've struggled a lot recently, realizing that bisexual was too narrow a definition for me. Thanks for helping me clear things up!
ReplyDeleteSo how does this differ from a 'Pansexual' person? Or are these just two ways of saying the same thing?
ReplyDeletexyrra - I am glad you found it helpful, you might also like this earlier post http://queersunited.blogspot.com/2008/06/diversity-lesson-101-pansexuality.html
ReplyDeleteMoon - I think the two terms are pretty analogous. Thanks for asking.
So weird...a group of us literally just had a conversation about the pansexual/omnisexual thing!
ReplyDeleteThank you! This is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI am so confused. I thought there were only two genders (male and female). Am I missing something?
