The great nationwide kiss-in will be occuring at dozens of cities across the United States and Canada this Saturday, August 15th at 2:00 pm EDT (11:00 am PDT) to show support for gay public display of affection. The event is taking place after recent arrests and discrimination imposed on same-sex couples for showing their love.

Mostly referring to discrimination such as lesbians at a baseball game, and gay men in Chico's El Paso Tx.
As for the arrest it is referring to the Mormon Temple promenade event where two men were arrested.
I am so sad that I'll have to work!
Ironically enough, I will be in Pittsburgh this weekend for a wedding. My partner and I are going to try to attend this between the ceremony and reception. A few summers ago we were kicked out of a bar for sharing an innocent peck on the lips. A few weeks after that we were pushed around by some big bad homophobic frat boys that are so insecure with their own sexuality. Pittsburgh is really the only city I've been harassed in.
