The New York State Senate is scheduled to debate and vote on the issue of marriage equality today. The outcome is unpredictable at the moment, with some democrats and republicans opposed, in favor, or unsure of their vote. It is essential that you urge your senator to vote in favor of full equality for their LGBT constituents.

ReplyDeleteI really hope that the governor can get this legislature to pass this bill. The beautiful thing is that, so far as I know, there is no referendum process, so once enacted into law, marriage equality should be safe.
ReplyDeleteYou GO, New York, you go!!
It is so important to have this vote. We need to get politicians off the fence about this issue and commit one way or the other, knowing that history will judge them on votes like this. Also, like Governor Deval Patrick in Massachusetts, Governor Paterson is a leader on this issue, not a follower. I know he isn't terribly popular right now, but how great it would be for a same-sex marriage law to help him in the upcoming elections. Can't wait for the time (it's here in Massachusetts) when opposing same-sex marriage becomes a political liability. I'm hoping this may happen in New York.
