Urgent Alert: Contact Reps Over Arizona Anti-Marriage Amendment

The Arizona House of Representatives are slated to vote Monday over a proposed bill that would place a ban on same-sex marriage amendment to the 2008 ballot for November.

Arizona residents CLICK HERE to find and contact your two representatives and tell them to vote against this hateful amendment and to support equality for LGBT residents.

A similiar action almost took place in PA. Senate subcommittee passed an amendment, but it was tabled before going to the full Senate for a vote. The reason: not enough votes to support it. One can only hope in AZ level headedness prevails and the amendment is defeated.

In NJ, we move forward to gay marriage. http://karlscorner.blogspot.com/2008/05/new-jersey-on-brink-of-gay-marriage.html

Thanks Karl, certainly an optimistic sentiment. Also, last time the Arizonanians voted on this amendment the people rejected it. So even if it does pass the House of Reps, hopefully the citizens will block it.

Do you know what the name of the bill is or any talking points against it? I looked at the Equality AZ site but didn't really see anything recent about this kind of thing. Where did you hear about this?

Just want to know what to say when I contact my reps...

Ivan it is SCR 1042, but I couldn't find any talking points for it.

It's nice to see that the only state to not make Martin Luther King Day into a state holiday has really advanced itself. Way to go, Arizona!

Sadly it appears this will be on the ballot.

I actually wouldn't mind if one of these passed, then could eventually lead to a supreme court ruling that would bring an end to all this silliness (like loving v. virginia).

With the Supreme court being so conservative I don't see a chance in hell that Equal Marriage would pass at this point.
