Our straight allies are our friends, support system and a source of inspiration as we struggle for true understanding and equality. Today's open forum is an opportunity to publicly thank our LGBTQIA allies who make a difference in our lives. If you are a straight ally, feel free to post about what drives you to be an agent of change for the queer community. If you are queer let us know how straight allies have made a difference in your life, and how important they are to you!

Thank you for the inspiration to climb out of our ruts.

I attended the Soulforce/Atticus Circle Sunday of Solidarity (SOS) direct action in San Antonio Texas at Cornerstone Church in response to Rev. Haggee's anti GLBT tirades.
It is truly awesome to be in the presense of allies as commited to justice as Atticus Circle.
Great idea for a post!
I thank all straight allies, because we are a minority and will need help from members of the majority.
I thank the first two friends who I met in NYC, who also came up from the South. One is a man who, like me, has an immigrant wife whom he moved for. Our lives weren't that different, really. We commisserate over people who think we're stupid because of our accents and the lack of a decent country radio station here. We are adjusting together.
I thank my brother, who never lets me and my wife feel alone at a family gathering when some of our relatives get hostile and who kept talking about us when same-sex couples' rights came up to a vote in Florida.
There are many others--my boss, my neighbors, my governor, several of my blogfriends, the moderator of a NASCAR board who recently defended me when homophobes saw my blog. In their own ways, quite a few straight allies have enriched my life and shown me that they get it. Some showed me that hearts and minds and votes can be changed. I thank them all.
I thank all those of you who stand out and support us. You have nothing to gain, yet you still understand that human rights transcends beyond our own personal benefits. I know that there have been countless times through the rough stages of coming out, to being a political activist, straight allies have always been a shoulder to lean on, to laugh with, and to cry with. Thank you ALL for what you do, it means the world to us.
