Demand Real World Star Apologize for Violent Homophobic Remarks

MTV's 'Real World' is taking place in New Orleans this season and as usual there is one openly gay housemate. The openly gay member Preston has been in a feud with metrosexual Ryan over the past few weeks. Ryan however has taken his rage to a whole new level by repeatedly referring to Preston as a 'faggot' and making remarks about gay people. He was even quoted on Twitter as replying to someone by saying: "I would love to see you in person, and smash your gay f*cking face in.”

MTV is not to blame, they can't control individual actions, and the network has been given an excellent rating for gay positive material. Furthermore the show Real World has been at the forefront of tackling LGBT issues for years. Having an an openly gay man with AIDS, a transgender castmate, and a bisexual activist, among many other queer moments.

Demand Rep. Skelton Apologize for Homophobic Remarks

Congressman Ike Skelton (D-MO) has publicly said he wants to keep the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy for fear that repeal would lead to a national discussion about homosexuality.

The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee said Tuesday that he thought the military should keep its ban on openly gay service members in part because he did not want to open a national discussion about homosexuality. The chairman, Representative Ike Skelton, a conservative Missouri Democrat, said he thought the debate in Congress over the proposed repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy might force families to explain homosexuality to their children. “What do mommies and daddies say to their 7-year-old child?” Mr. Skelton asked reporters at a news media breakfast. Self Described "Proud Homophobe" Kicked Off of Elite Panel on Oil Spill

Thanks to activist outcry the Department of Energy has dropped Mr. Jonathan Katz from the oil spill elite team. His controversial writings were deemed a distraction to the groups efforts.

Katz a professor of Physics at Washington University to the elite panel designed to help British Petroleum find solutions to the oil spill in the Gulf. Racist/Homophobic NC State Senator Refuses to Meet Constituents

North Carolina State Senator Jim Forrester (R-Gaston) has a history of anti-gay and anti-POC statements and actions. His first order of business for the past six years has been filing an amendment to ban same-sex marriage.

He has made anti-gay and anti-black remarks such as:

"Slick city lawyers and homosexual lobbies and African American lobbies are running Raleigh"

A local chapter of the LGBT advocacy group Parents and Friends of Lesbians & Gays(PFLAG) wanted to have a face to face meeting with the senator but he is rejecting that invitation.

"I doubt I will go to the meeting, but I appreciate the invitation anyhow," Forrester said. "I don't think it would be a constructive meeting. I think it would just increase animosity toward me, and I don't want that" (Pam's Houseblend).

Demand that Senator Forrester meet with his diverse constituency. He represents LGBT and African American populations and must do the job he was elected to do.

BBC News Pseudo Apologizes for Homophobic Poll

The programme was a legitimate and responsible attempt to support a challenging discussion about proposed legislation that advocates the death penalty for those who undertake certain homosexual activities in Uganda - an important issue where the BBC can provide a platform for debate that otherwise would not exist across the continent and beyond"

The BBC does not understand that the nature of this poll is not only offensive, but provides a platform for homophobic and violent attitudes.

12/16/09: The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is the subject of controversy over their latest 'Have Your Say' section asking "should homosexuals should face execution?"

The site discusses how Uganda is debating the death penalty for homosexuals, and asks users to weigh in.

Naturally this has brought up many intensely homophobic and some violent commentary. This is not a 'debate' to be had, and since it incites hatred and violence against LGBT people, this is totally unacceptable. The BBC has a rule against users leaving homophobic comments, yet many remain on the forum.

Rapper Bow Wow Doesn't Want Gay Barbers

American rap-artist Bow Wow made ridiculous statements via a live chat yesterday, which demonstrated his insecurity and homophobia around gay people.

"During the chat Bow Wow revealed how uncomfortable he gets around gays.

He talked about a time where he needed a haircut and had his people go and find him a barber. But after noticing the barber was gay he told them that he didn’t want the haircut anymore.

He said he didn’t want a gay barber touching his head" (BET).

Much of the money Bow Wow has made over the years has been touched by gay people, but he never seemed to mind.

Former Atlanta Brave John Rocker Uses Anti-gay & Anti-Semitic Slurs

Former Atlanta Brave John Rocker used anti-gay slurs and anti-Semitic statements against local radio host Steak Shapiro during an altercation at the W Buckhead hotel’s grand opening last week.

Rocker allgedly used ethnic slurs against Shapiro, who hosts a sports talk show on AM station 790 The Zone, and in later stories reported that Rocker kept calling Shapiro a “Jew.”

The AJC did not report that Rocker used the word “faggot.” However, Shapiro confirmed to Southern Voice today that Rocker used the slur against him.

“It [faggot] is one of his favorite terms and he used it multiple times,” Shapiro told SoVo. “His exact words at least three times [were], ‘You Jew faggot.’ He is a pathetic guy.”

Rocker, a former Braves relief pitcher, caused a national stir in 1999 by ridiculing a host of minority groups when describing to a Sports Illustrated reporter why he would not want to play for a New York-based team.

“Imagine having to take the No. 7 train to the ballpark, looking like you’re [riding] through Beirut, next to some kid with purple hair, next to some queer with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids,” Rocker said. BBC Features Sexist & Homo/Bi-Phobic Comments

On the BBC3 program "The Most Annoying People of 2008" there were comments made that can be characterized as sexist, homophobic, and bi-phobic in nature.

"Within the program, which was broadcast in two parts on BBC3 on 30th and 31st December, lesbians were described as "munters" and viewers were told that female Hollywood superstars should be saved for heterosexuals.

During the program, BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Spooney said of lesbians: "Let the munters and mingers get each other. That's cool. Nobody wants them."

He then referred to Lohan and Ronson: "But when they're hot and fit…you know what I mean?

"Hollywood superstars: they should be saved for guys."

Porn actor Ron Jeremy made several references to ejaculating on the couple" (Pink News).

Tell The Academy - No Humanitarian Award for Comedian Jerry Lewis

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has chosen Jerry Lewis to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian award to be given during the Oscar ceremony in February, 2009. The award "is given to an individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry," says the academy.

Controversy is building around the selection due to Lewis' repeated anti-gay slurs on television, including ones he made during his annual Muscular Dystrophy association telethon, and as recently as last October, on Australian TV, the latter shortly after an apology for his insults.

Many are in agreement that Lewis has done amazing things for those in need, but due to the recent passing of Prop 8, his recent slurs, and the fact that this is a humanitarian award, a call for the academy to change its choice has been made.

Anti-Gay Principal Reneges on his Decision to Resign

Back in May we discussed the Columbia, South Carolina Irmo High School's vote and rally on whether to allow the formation of a Gay-Straight Alliance. In light of the fact that the school voted to allow a GSA principal Eddie Walker had announced he would resign since the club "conflicted with his values" and he felt it was inappropriate for a club to discuss things of a "sexual nature."

Now according to CountOn2News:

"Lexington-Richland District 5 spokesman Buddy Price told The State newspaper Thursday that interim superintendent Herbert Berg got a letter from Walker that said he wanted to stay."

Comedian Jerry Lewis Continues "Faggot" Jokes

Comedian Jerry Lewis has been in boiling hot water before. Insulting gays, women and disability rights advocates with his provocative comedy routine.

"At a press conference in Sydney today 83 year old comedian Jerry Lewis decided to let fly with the word ‘fag’. And what’s even more shocking, a major Australian news outlet didn’t even feel the need to edit the word out before televising the interview.

While speaking with a journalist from Channel Ten News, Lewis was asked “What do you think of cricket?” His response was, “Oh cricket is a fag’s game!” Lewis then proceeded to flounce about, using camp, effeminate gestures, pretending to hold a bat with a limp wrist, squealing in a high pitched voice “Ah! The ball is coming towards me!” (Same-Same)

He has apologized in the past for using the homophobic slur, maybe its time for him to apologize again and put an end to his homophobic stand up routine?
