Say it Loud - A sexual and Proud!

The Asexual movement has been picking up steam and along with education, media visibility, and awareness there is a growing group of people who are embracing their asexuality and wearing it proudly on their sleeves.

Asexual Pride is important in an effort to show that this minority exists and to create awareness about what this segment of our population faces. "Asexual Pride" is relatively new so whether you are Asexual or an ally you can be part of the process of demonstrating your Pride and commitment to diversity with a few of these simple steps...

LGBTQIA Social Networking Sites

It's Sunday and a slow news day so I decided to list some (FREE) LGBT social networking sites I have come across that I like. The following sites are good for dating, making friends, sharing a common interest, and business networking. They are sort of like the queer myspaces of the world.

I know there are many communities specific to individual orientations/identities but I figured I would just list the ones that are most inclusive.

Feel free to list any social networking/dating sites you are part of and like...

http://www.glee.com - Gay, Lesbian, and Everyone Else (GLEE) is a great resource for finding your love, friends, or a new job! The website has forums, videos, music and more... (Another thing I like about (GLEE) is it is asexual & trans friendly).

http://www.gayster.com - Gayster is a new queer take on myspace and has just launched, it seeks to unite the LGBT community and offers member search, videos, groups, photo's, blogs, event listings and more.

http://www.connexion.org - Connexion lets you find dates and friends, get LGBT news, and find the latest party near you.

http://www.downelink.com - Downelink was created as a play on the word down low "DL" and caters mostly to African American and Latino LGBTQ populations, but is open to everyone. DowneLink offers an array of features, such as social networking, blogs, internal emails, bulletins, forums, video/audio chat and instant messaging, and video profile.

http://mogenic.com/ - Mogenic is for queer youth to connect. It offers articles, news, blogs, people search, and so much more.

http://www.thingbox.com - Mostly U.K. centered but open to the planet at large Thingbox offers popular forums, chat, groups, events, people search and more.

Obama Pride - Video Collage

Never has a candidate for president made LGBT equality such a prominent part of his message for America. This is a video collage of several speeches from the landmark speech to the Democratic National Committee Convention in 2004, to his announcement of his candidacy for president. Obama has consistently brought up the message of equality for LGBT America.

Word of the Gay: "Purple Rhino"

Use of the Purple Rhino dates back to the 1970's as a symbol for Gay power. The symbol never picked up steam but was chosen because the Rhino is usually a docile and often misunderstood creature but can put up a good fight if attacked. It was analogous to the fact that Gays and Lesbians are peaceful and loving but will fight back if bashed.

PRIDE Celebrations Around the World!

The weather is hot, the summer is here, and that means the Queers are out to show their true colors, pride, political aspirations, and to unite as a community.

That's right! LGBTQAI PRIDE month is coming up!

Here are some links to websites that list PRIDE parades and celebrations around the world... They are pretty detailed but there are some locations missing, so feel free to post if you know of a PRIDE event that has not been listed.

Safety, Lives of LGBT Moldovans Under Immediate Threat; Action Needed Now!

According to Queer Activism:

"The government refused police protection for this weekend's LGBT Pride March in Moldova's capital city of Chisinau, where members of the International Lesbian and Gay Association of Europe and Romania's human rights organization, ACCEPT, are also gathered. All legal procedures were followed to obtain the appropriate permits, and despite early promises, the mayor of Chisinau has withdrawn approval for the march permits. Police stood by silently as fascists attacked the bus with parade organizers and did not allow the march to take place.

The government of Moldova is threatening to arrest Rev. Elder Diane Fisher and Eastern European LGBT activist Florin Buhuceanu if they hold worship services for the LGBT community this weekend.

And they are refusing to provide police protection, despite numerous death threats made against Diane and Florin and the LGBT community there."

Write a brief e-mail to the Moldovan government. Ask them to honor their nation's laws and to allow the peaceful gathering of LGBT people and their supporters. Ask that the rights of LGBT people be protected. Let them know the eyes of the world are focused on Moldova this week.

The following email will allow you to contact the -- Moldovan Ministry of Justice, Moldovan Ministry of Social Protection, Moldovan Advocate for Human Rights, Moldova's Embassy in Washington, DC, and the Chisinau City Hall (Moldova's Capital City).
