San Diego to Protest "Ex-Gay" Workshop

On January 27th 2010, at Skyline Wesleyan Church near San Diego, California, Exodus International will hold a training session (they call it an “equipping”). The purpose of these equipping events is to teach pastors, ministers, educators and counselors how to deal with “unwanted homosexuality.”

The pastor of Skyline Church is no stranger to LGBT Californians, our families, friends and allies. Pastor Jim Garlow claimed responsibility for jump-starting Prop 8, the California ballot initiative that took away the existing right of LGBT couples to marry; was the driving force behind the pre-2008-Election, anti-gay rally, TheCall, at Qualcomm Stadium; traveled to DC to oppose The Matthew Shepard & James Byrd Jr Hate Crimes Prevention Act; was one of the original signatories of the blueprint for American theocracy called The Manhattan Declaration; and, most recently, tried (unsuccessfully) to worm out of testifying in the Perry v Schwarzenegger Prop 8 trial.

Car-pooling will be available from here:

Say No to Manchester - Rally at Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel!

LGBT groups, union groups, and allies will be protesting this Saturday, January 9th against the Manchester Grant Hyatt Hotel in San Diego, California. There have been numerous demonstrations at the resort due to the fact that the owner Doug Manchester donated $125,000 to ban same-sex marriage in the state.

The wildly successful protests have entered into their second year and organizers estimate the hotel has incurred over 8 million dollars in losses as a result of their boycott and protests.

URGENT: Ask President Clinton to Respect the Manchester Hyatt Boycott

President Clinton is scheduled to give a paid speech this Sunday at the Manchester Hyatt in San Diego to the annual convention of the International Franchise Association. Doing so will violate a union boycott and labor dispute -- the workers at the hotel lack job security and the housekeepers face onerous workloads.

But that's not all. President Clinton will also be offending supporters of marriage equality. Doug Manchester, the owner of the hotel, contributed $125,000 in early seed money to the Proposition 8 campaign.

We can't let this happen. President Clinton has the power to move his speech away from the Manchester Hyatt. And you have the power to convince him before it's too late. Please sign this petition to President Clinton immediately and the Courage Campaign and UNITE HERE will do everything in our power to get your signatures to him ASAP:

Rally at Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego Over Clinton's Speech

Former President Bill Clinton, was urged not to speak at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego due to the owners large contribution to proposition 8.

It appears the effort was not enough and now the former President will have to cross a picket-line of people who will be protesting. Clinton spokesman Matthew McKenna said. "I don't think you can name a leader in the world who has done more to advance gay and lesbian issues".

Are you kidding me? Don't Ask Don't Tell, the Defense of Marriage Act, and now this? Gee, thanks.

Guerilla Gay Bar San Diego

Guerilla Gay Bar San Diego is a new group that turns activism into a fun time. Once a month they choose an unsuspecting bar, that predominantly caters to straight folks, and they decide to go by the hoards and turn the bar into a gay friendly bar for the night.

It is empowering and fun for the community to show its strength as well as pick out new locations to party. It also gives the straight world a chance to see, mingle, and interact with the LGBT community on a personal level.

Sound fun? One night during the first week each month. Sign up.

Urge SDCERA to Hold Conference Elsewhere!

The San Diego County Employees Retirement Association is scheduled to hold their conference Oct 12-14. The amount of money from the conference will generate $50,000 for the Manchester Grand Hyatt whose owner Doug Manchester donated $125,000 to help defeat same-sex marriage in California.

Contact SDCERA and tell them to use a different venue. They have people they represent who are LGBT and their money should not goto this anti-gay establishment.

Grossmont Union H.S. District Endorses Proposition 8

"The Grossmont Union High School District went on record yesterday supporting a November initiative that would ban same-sex marriage in California.

The board voted 4-0 to pass a resolution endorsing Proposition 8, which would amend the state Constitution to recognize marriage only between a man and a woman." (San Diego Tribune)

This bigoted move by the school district has zero to do with education and sends a message intolerance and bigotry to students, faculty, and the community.
