No On Prop 8 Needs Fundraising Help!

Urgent: Marriage equality supporters in California lag in fundraising. "According to the most recent campaign contribution reports from the California Secretary of State, supporters of the anti-gay marriage November ballot measure have raised $16.2 million in their effort to pass Proposition 8. Opponents have brought in $10.8 million, which is still a sizable chunk of money. But Dale Kelly Bankhead, who signed the email as campaign manager of 'No On 8,' writes, 'We must match what is raised dollar for dollar with the right wing; if we do not, we are at serious risk of losing this November.'" 1707 In England, Hannah Wright and Anne Gaskill are married. They were one of two female couples whose marriages were registered in the parish of Taxal, Cheshire.

1957 In the UK, the Wolfenden report is published. It had studied legal approaches to homosexuality and recommended the decriminalization of sex between consenting adults over the age of 21.

1976 Fourth Annual Gay Conference for Canada and Quebec opens in Toronto.

1984 A National Gay Task Force survey in the US shows that approximately 10 percent of lesbians and 25 percent of gay men had been physically assaulted because of their sexual orientation.

1990 Voters in Broward County Florida reject a gay rights ordinance 59 percent to 41 percent.

1995 The British government announces it would review its policy of excluding homosexuals from military service.

2004 Pope John Paul II facing the reality that three of Canada's largest provinces allow same-sex weddings, Pope John Paul II denounces gay marriage in a meeting with Canada's new ambassador to the Vatican. Gay marriage continued to be legal in Canada after the meeting."
