Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern who once suggested "gays are worse than terrorism" is back to demonizing gays again. In an unusually public ceremony, Rep. Kern signed a “Proclamation for Morality,” which blames the U.S.’s current economic crisis on, among other acts of “debauchery,” same-sex marriage.
Part of her proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis; andYesterday at the State House Sally Kern read and signed the proclamation, protesters and supporters chanted and sang:
WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery; and
WHEREAS, alarmed that the Government of the United States of America is forsaking the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built; and
WHEREAS, grieved that the Office of the president of these United States has refused
to uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in giving recognition to our National Day of Prayer; and
WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior.
Sally Kern is suggesting our economic troubles are due to same-sex marriage and Obama recognizing June as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride month? Maybe, if she spent less time obsessing about gays and more time doing her job we wouldn't have an economic crisis!

Is this what Oklahoma is really like? Why on earth would any company or corporation ever open a location in a place that has leaders like this? Do folks in Oklahoma realize what this does for their state's reputation, i.e., people openly mock them? Sheesh!
Don't American people have memory? The crisis was evident under Bush, even before the elections. I'm European and I remember talking about this topic in late September and early October 2008. Haven't
She's not the brightest bulb is she. Anyone who has taken any course on logic or critical thinking wouldn't have thrown in the debauchery tag. It's just gratuitous.
We already know you're bigot Sen. Kern, you don't need to keep reminding us.
No Oklahoma is not like this, SILLY Kern is considered a moderate for that state.
There's a reason nobody goes to, or cares about, Oklahaoma.
Gee, hasn't she ever heard of separation of church and state? She wants our government run by religion which is totally against what our founding fathers laid out for this country. Maybe she needs to brush up on the United States Constitution. Until then she should give up her office.
Out in Folklahoma I guess they don't like history books much..."the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built" seems to be quite an interesting concept, since the people that first came here and later "founded" the nation were not Christian but primarily deists and were fleeing (of all things ironically) religious persecution by Christians. Nice bit of revisionist history Silly.
I have a problem with this...one that involves LOGIC
Unfortunately Kern proves you don't need to be intelligent or informed to run for office.
As for Oklahoma, GOD sure sends a lot of tornadoes through there to prove HE is displeased with their sin and evil... at least according to the xtian logic leveled at New Orleans hurricanes and San Francisco earthquakes.
Some xtians are dirt stupid... usually the loudest ones.
Sorry about the economy, y'all. Didn't mean to trigger the recession with my same-sex marriage.
Now it's lots of right-wingers' turns, judging by that list.
Wow, we of the gblt community are the reason for the economic woes of the Country? Thank you so much Kern for pointing that out. I would have never connected that .... your logic must be of the godly level to make that connection.
But I forget, she will not read this, so i type it for my own pleasure.
Let's see, got hitched last year and I've been out of work since late December. Oh, and my state (California) is going down the tubes as we speak.
And yet Governor Sandford can get up there and apologize for stepping out on his wife with a floozie (ahem, his soul-mate) as well as talk about how he wants to save his career.
And *I'm* the bigger threat to the nation?
Er, no.
And I suppose the great depression of 29 was caused by so called moral debauchery aka gay marriage ??????
dont despair bros of OK - history is on your side
I love it when religion and politics mix.
Always has AMAZING results.
I guess this means that Rep. Sally Kern's goofy posturing is her bid to take Sarah Palin's seat as the Official GOP Female Spokesperson and Laughable Dingbat ...?
I used to live in Lawton OK in 1966. Doesn't sound like much has changed.
Not all of Oklahoma is like Sally Kern. Some of us, straight or otherwise, stay because without us no positive change could be affected.
As it was in the days of Noah.
I stay in Oklahoma to try to work for gay rights, animal welfare, separation of church and state. It does get lonely at times. I belong to a small Unitarian-Universalist congregation and so there are some of us trying to make a difference.
That said, I am sick and tired of being embarrassed by Oklahoma politicians--both state and national. It's humiliating.
To commenter Steve Denver
x-tians? WOW! Someone is insecure to say the word Christian. This is part of why the rainbow flag is a contradiction.
Liberals are too disrespectful to say Christian cause it offends them.
GOD forbid anyone has an opinion or uncomfortable about gay, gay marriage, or other gay issue. You feel offended!
If you want everyone to accept and tolerate your lifestyle, you should accept that people are offended about how you treat CHRISTIAN. Even the WORD bothers you.
Gay and liberals are for equality and acceptance..but they won't accept any one NOT LIKE THEM. GOD FORBID they follow CHRIST.
Do as I say, not as I do.
As for most Christians, I can only speak for myself. I don't care who you love or sleep with. If I have different beliefs, I keep it to myself. Life is about the pursuit of happiness.
As a straight, republican, Christian from Oklahoma, it makes me very sad that the bad treatment that my LGBT friends recieve is often from other Christians. God loves us all in spite of the choices we make and not everyone in Oklahoma harbors hatred like Kearns. Please don't label all Christians as people who hate you. It just isn't true.
She's entitled to her point of view, and she's merely labeling homosexuality as a symptom of a much larger problem- and that problem of moral weakness is what has led to our financial issues in America. Through many symptoms, most of which are as old as time. So don't feel like she's just singling out homosexuality now. It's been debauchery for a long time. Nobody's making that part up.
To Kimmy: The X in Xmas or Xtian is the first letter of the Greek word for Christ. By the 16th century in Europe the use of the X was commonplace for Xmas or Xtian. The CHURCH itself used the abbreviation in its pamplets. Although the meaning was well understood by Christian clergy, as time passed many Christians, whether educated or not, were no longer aware of it. It's a mistake to assume that using the X is a sign of disrespect for Christianity.
Kern can't reason her way out of a paper bag on the subject of morality in general or gays in particular. Instead she wildly slanders gays as well as the whole country. The problem of course is that most people won't knuckle under to her fascistlike version of religion. The willingly enslaved wish noone to be free.
Not only does she whine that the President doesn't toe her religious line, she also superstitiously blames every ill imaginable on gays, etc, and other forms of "immorality". This she does under the color of authority, defiling her office.
Pardon me, but who is she to be issuing proclamations? Did I fail to notice when the Empress was crowned? Yes. Silly me, because she has already named the state religion of her choice.
Saturday night some gangbangers appeared in my neighbood for the first time. I'm sure the gays did it. In fact I know they did it, because as I walked by they were beating the h**l out of each other. That's never happened before. I feel so guilty.
Great, more bigotry! And of course she blames women of the non-barefoot and pregnant variety for the economic depression as well! My mum was born outside of marriage, and because of misogynist douchebags like Sally Kern my grandma had to give her up and my mum spent much of her early life feeling bad about existing. I can't believe she's blaming homo/bisexuality for the economy. I bet she blames immigrants as well, and if she wants to talk child abuse I'd like her to tell me how telling an LGBT teenager that they are sinful, that they need curing and throwing them out of the house is not abuse.
Thank you for education American citizens about the bigotry that exists in our country. I urge everyone to get in touch with the folks in Maine who are trying to keep same-sex marriage legal!
