April 15th is tax day and when tax returns are due to the IRS before a penalty can be imposed. Same-sex couples face tax inequities and are ineligible to file joint tax returns. The results are higher pay and less access to social security, estate and other benefits for gay families.

So when faced with a privilege given to one portion of the population, the answer is not to remove it, but to extend it to another subset of the population? Why does being in a long term monogamous relationship entitle anyone to anything?
Inequities? Like the marriage penalty? Oh yeah, sign me up for that! My partner and I save thousands of dollars in taxes every year not being married and having our income combined. With the upcoming tax increase for health care, we'll save even more. Be careful what you ask for...you might get it!
