An "amazon dyke" is a strong female who may not shave or be into bodybuilding.
So Amazon Dyke, and the picture of the female bodybuilder isn't offensive, but you found Family Guy to be? Are you Republican?
Amazon Dyke is a term used in the community. Word of the Gay features a variety of words some funny, some offensive but all are queer terms. Amazon Dyke refers to a strong woman who bodybuilds so I fail to see why putting an image of a bodybuilder is bad?
I'm not saying it is bad, nor am I offended by Family Guy. Just find it kinda odd that you find Family Guy offensive but not the word Dyke. Or is it one of those situations where we can say dyke cause we are gay? Just trying to wrap my head around your thought process...
I think Michael is missing the point. "Word of the Gay" is just a dictionary definition of queer slang terms that SOME people in the community use (or once used in the past). It's meant to be informational, not an endorsement.By the way, I'd never heard of "Amazon Dyke" before. Interesting...
Michael outoutout said it exactly like it... none of my WOG's are endorsements, as a matter of fact some words are downright hideous in my opinion. As for dyke, it is one of those controversial words. It can be offensive depending on the context, but it has also been reclaimed in many circles as a word of empowerment and as a term to describe identity. Some bi/les women like the word dyke and others will be quick to tell you they hate it.
I have learned many new words here, 99% of which I will never use. MY point of reading this blog is to feel a part of my gay community in all its diversity.
