A "pronoun dance" is when a person avoids using gender specific language in the event that they are unsure of the persons gender identity.

Oh, it's so true. I also pronoun-dance around people I don't know very well when talking about my girlfriend.
Good point this could also be used in reference to your own partner if you are uncomfortable outing yourself.
