GLBT Community Center of Colorado Provides Mobile Giving

The GLBT Community Center of Colorado is providing a unique way to donate to keep up center operations, and enhance the way of life for the GLBT community in Denver. Those interested in supporting the centers efforts can donate $5 through text messages by texting PRIDE to 40579.

Arizona's Wingspan LGBT Center Needs Your Help!

The economic hardships are hitting all sectors of the economy hard, and have been a particular cause of hardship for LGBT nonprofits such as queer community centers trying to stay afloat.

Wingspan has been serving Tucson's LGBT community since 1988 and with the economic downturn has come drastic cutbacks for the organization. The LGBT and straight supportive communities would sorely miss this center and it's vital services if the door's close on it, which is a very real possibility.

The group is desperately seeking volunteers to take the place of former paid staffers and also looking for any and all donations to help them continue to serve the community.

Pepsi Donates 500K to PFLAG

Pepsi Co. has donated $500,000 to "Straight for Equality" a program by Parents & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). The program seeks to reach out to straight allies and educate them about LGBT issues.

Jacqueline Millan, Director of PepsiCo Corporate Contributions, said:

"We are delighted to continue our partnership with PFLAG. The Straight for Equality in the Workplace training program is unique in that it is promoting the necessary message of inclusion to untapped groups within the local community, and that is a crucial step towards building a healthy working environment."

As you could imagine right-wing anti-gay groups are already fired up and threatening Pepsi.

Please be sure to contact Pepsi and thank them for donating to LGBT causes and specifically to the "Straight for Equality" program of PFLAG. We must demonstrate that our population is full of brand loyal consumers who watch carefully the political and social ramifications of decisions made by corporations.

Soulforce's Equality Ride is Desperate for Donations!

Soulforce an organization dedicated to "freedom for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people from religious and political oppression through the practice of relentless nonviolent resistance" sends numbers of students yearly to conservative religious academies and seminaries that bar or are hostile towards queer people. The mission is to create dialogue and inform them of the misinterpretations of scripture. Some campuses allow these activists to come and communicate and others call the police on the riders, which in turn the activists are prepared to get arrested and physically removed from the property in a demonstration of nonviolent resistance. The Equality Ride as it has come to be called has been influential in changing the hearts and minds of students, faculty, and clergy on many of the respective campuses

"The Equality Ride is the signature program of the Soulforce young adults. It saves lives and opens minds. Of the 55 colleges and universities already visited, we've seen significant progress made in the official policies of several schools.

Nearly twenty schools have formed Gay-Straight Alliances and created "Safe Zones" for LGBT students. LGBT students have begun to come out of their closets to their friends, professors and families in order to live whole and complete lives."

Soulforce's Equality Ride is set to launch Oct 1st, 2008. The Equality Ride is in dire need of contributions in light of the fact that a large donation has fallen through. The organization must raise $70,000 to meet the costs of transportation, lodging, food, and expenses for training, as well as bale money.
