Today is LGBT Center Awareness Day, an opportunity to honor and celebrate the difference queer community centers make in our lives. The 2009 theme is “My Community Center Changed My Life” and will focus on the vital role that community centers play in the health, empowerment, and unity of LGBT communities.
Celebrate the day by going to an event at your local LGBT center or share your story about how the center has impacted your life.
Find a center, join a program/club, or donate at the Directory for LGBT centers.

Billy DeFrank LGBT Center in San Jose May Close Doors
The Billy DeFrank center which serves the LGBT community of the Silicon Valley in California may have to close its door unless it can meet its funding requirements. After suffering donation losses and losing all government funding, the center cannot fund their day to day operations.
The center has been a safe space serving the community since 1981 through youth programs, HIV/AIDS testing, senior lunches, their library, a bookstore, bingo nights, resource center, movie nights, womens programming, and other social events.
Please help keep the center doors open by donating generously.

Arizona's Wingspan LGBT Center Needs Your Help!
The economic hardships are hitting all sectors of the economy hard, and have been a particular cause of hardship for LGBT nonprofits such as queer community centers trying to stay afloat.
Wingspan has been serving Tucson's LGBT community since 1988 and with the economic downturn has come drastic cutbacks for the organization. The LGBT and straight supportive communities would sorely miss this center and it's vital services if the door's close on it, which is a very real possibility.
The group is desperately seeking volunteers to take the place of former paid staffers and also looking for any and all donations to help them continue to serve the community.
If you have a few extra dollars, donate to Wingspan or your local LGBT Community Center.
