Queers United in Top 25 Gay Rights Blogs

It is flattering to see that Queers United has been listed as one of the top 25 most influential gay rights blog. It is also great that the site Online Paralegal Degree notes our effort to include all sexual and gender minorities and not just focus solely on gay and lesbian issues.

"Queers United stands as one of the few blogs which actively seeks out relating to intersexual and asexual issues in addition to the usual GLBT news. They promote the importance of activism and education as the best routes towards obtaining equality for the community, citing Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, and other nonviolent civil rights leaders as their main influences. Content encompasses issues, developments, and movements from around the United States, and readers can handily pick what subjects they would like to learn more about from a tab at the top of the menu."

Thanks to Online Paralegal Degree for recognizing us and the other great blogs listed on there! Thank you to all readers for your continued support and e-activism, and please also visit the other great sites listed!

Queers United Celebrates 1 year Anniversary!

Well, apparently we missed it. March 23rd 2008 this blog began with the first post being about representative Sally Kern. The idea came about to unite the queer community and allies and to educate, as well as demand equal rights through netroots activism. We have been successfully doing so for over a year. We as a community have had major defeats and challenges, but have also made many strides and won many battles. It is through our unity and commitment that we will achieve full equality and dignity under the law.

Thank YOU for being part of the movement, and part of queer liberation.

Recruiting Volunteers to Help The Queer Agenda!

I just want to thank those who have heeded this posts call and have begun to help out. In particular Stephen, Seth, Mike, Vallan, Evilslutopia, Paula and many others of you have been adding entries on facebook, myspace, and your own blogs, and I want to thank you so much. Having you guys help spread the word is critical in two ways. 1. It allows more eyes to see the material, which results in more people taking action (emailing, writing, calling, boycotting, protesting, etc). 2. The less time I have to spend promoting the actions, the more time I have to find more information and action alerts, and put out more postings.

How can you help?

  • There are different opportunities for people to help list each incoming post to different social networking sites like twitter, myspace, reddit, etc let me know if you would to be responsible for one.
  • If anyone has talent making videos or graphics, perhaps you can get in touch and we can start working on this for specific campaigns. Videos can be uploaded to youtube and go viral, and graphics/banners can be placed on many pages, it would be a whole new way to promote our actions.
  • Create your own entry on activism and different calls to action, and you could link and credit your site for such work. You could do as much or as little as you want, no obligations.
Thank you so much to those of you who have contacted me about helping out, or are already spreading the message in a variety of ways!

Thanks again for your loyal readership and committed activism, together we ARE making a difference!

QU Site Feedback

First off I want to thank all my loyal readers and dedicated queer activists who are truly helping to build a safe community here on the net and beyond. Each one of you has brought so much insight and joy and truly help enrich this blog as well as many of the blogs you all write.

In an effort to make Queers United better I would love to get some feedback, positive, negative, neutral, any and all constructive criticism is welcome. What do you like? What do you hate? What would you like to see more or less of?

I like to think of this blog as first and foremost a community, one whereby we all learn and grow from one another but also fight for each others rights.

Moving forward, would you all be interested if I added a message board feature so we can all engage in further conversation on a plethora of topics? What about having specific nights of the week with specified queer topics in a chatroom setting?

When I initially created the blog a few months ago, I just thought I would post action alerts so we can be a more powerful voice but as I and this blog have grown I also find it an opportunity to express myself and learn from you all. I am grateful to everyone who contributes and would love to hear your ideas big or small for moving forward and bringing about more community and a true advancement and liberation for all queer-identified individuals. Thanks!
