HRC's Corporate Equality Index

The Human Rights Campaign the nations largest LGBT advocacy group has come out with their eight annual Corporate Equality Index. The guide ranks corporations and provides analysis on their policies and practices that are pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees.

Tell the Senate to Pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act

The Employment Non Discrimination Act (ENDA) is having a hearing in the House of Representatives now, click here for a live feed of the coverage. ENDA would ensure that employees are protected from discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity/expression. The bill would make sure that an employee cannot be fired, refused hiring, or promotion simply based on these attributes.

It is still legal in 29 states to fire someone for their sexual orientation, and in 38 states for gender identity.

The senate has for the first time introduced a fully inclusive ENDA. Please urge your senators to co-sponsor this important piece of legislation.

Organization Spotlight: LEAGUE - GLBT Employees of AT&T

LEAGUE is the GBLT employee organization of AT&T. The members of LEAGUE provide a supportive environment for LGBT employees and allies to network with one another and to develop professionally; to promote an accepting, diverse and respectful work environment in support of AT&T's Diversity Vision; and to strengthen AT&T’s presence in the LGBT community as well as in the global community.

Demand Wal-Mart Support GLBT Employees

The worlds largest grocery retailer, Wal-Mart has been fairing well in this fragile economy where consumers seek out lower prices. GLBT employees among other groups of workers at Wal-Mart's stores are not being given the fair end of the deal.

While Wal-Mart had been seen as LGBT supportive in the past, they have more recently caved into demands by the anti-gay religious right as evidenced by a Wal-Mart Watch report on GLBT policies at the mega-chain.

• Wal-Mart no longer funds GLBT groups; stating that "they do not wish to support or oppose highly controversial issues."

• No same-sex Partner Benefits ie: healthcare, and other benefits.

• Gender identity/expression not included in non-discrimination policy.

Walmart's major competitors offer these benefits, and it's time Wal-Mart help clean up their image, and promote diversity as well as support their employees regardless of creed.

Take action by contacting Wal-Mart to add protections for gender variant people.
