Alan Turing Petitions Gaining Worldwide Attention

Worldwide attention has grown on a petition to the British Government demanding an apology for the treatment of gay computer scientist Alan Turing who cracked the Nazi enigma code. Turing was subject to chemical castration for being guilty of homosexuality, and ultimately took his life due to humiliation and shame that was subject upon him.

Over 26,000 British people have signed the British petition to Downing Street demanding a public apology by the government. A similar worldwide petition has been created to show support numbering close to 10,000.

"The International Association of Lesbian and Gay Children of Holocaust Survivors" is an organization for individuals whose parents were Holocaust survivors who come together to share their experiences and stories. The website has this quote "Just as a hidden memory is forgotten... If history is hidden, then history is forgotten!" The organizations mission is also to research the homosexual persecution that went on during the Holocaust and to make sure nobody forgets what happened so that history does not repeat itself.

Word of the Gay: "Black Triangle"

The inverted "black triangle" is a symbol that was placed on people deemed "asocial" by the Nazis. While there is no official documentation of persecuted lesbians being forced to wear this symbol under the Nazi regime the Nazis did adhere to a strict gender and heteronormative philosophy. The symbol of the "black triangle" is now one of pride and defiance against oppression in the lesbian community.
