Regina Spektor Calls Prop 8 "Disgusting," We Call Her Correct!

Regina Spektor, famous singer, song-writer and pianist has come out with more statements about proposition 8. First, she allowed use of her song in anti-prop 8 videos and now she is calling the court decision not to allow marriage equality "disgusting" but she maintains that she feels optimistic about the future.

"I'm just waiting for this whole 'not allowing gay people to marry' thing goes into the dark, yucky part of our history -- like white-only drinking fountains," she says. "It's just disgusting that it's not just a given already."

Despite the court's decision, Spektor is not only optimistic about marriage equality, she believes it's inevitable. "I know for sure this isn't going to be an issue in 20 years," she says. "It's just unfortunate that people fall victim to their time. Freedom always wins out -- it's just a matter of time, and people should learn by now to give freedom sooner rather than later, because it becomes a really crude, embarrassing part of national history"
(Spinner).

Let Regina Spektor's publicity agent know you approve of this message and thank her for being proactive on the issue.

Isn't she family? Her songs tend to have a pretty strong lesbian subtext where even the rare straight relationship with a man song, describes him solely by feminine features.

Either way, she rocks.

The original gay marriage ruling was illegal. The judges wanted to keep their jobs and not be recalled. In the original definition of marriage at the time of the creation of the constitution, there was no gays implied because they were closet cases (deselect by evolution). You need an amendment to change the constitution not an illegal ruling to change the constitution. Prop 8 is a couple words and Brown’s opposition was 111 pages? Intellectual insanity! You folks are still believing your fake polls believe that you can revoke P8. It must be the medical marijuana you libs are smoking. That is why you lost twice and your puppet judges want their pay instead of their socalled principles. Their 2 rulings are logically inconsistent. The fed case will cause a separation of the country between the gay states (the NE) and the rest of the country. We will press prop 8 and end civil unions and adoptions driving you gays out of the state because you folks are too insane to stop.

It's unfortunate that people like "anonymous" above feel a need to spread their hate and libel. There are plenty of places to do that where it will be met with encouragement. Post your homophobic rant somewhere else, where people will actually listen.

a lot of people, like the first anonymous, are always complaining and fighting against gay marriage. i was just wondering why. what's your motive behind illegalizing marriage of only one group? i really want to know. it's not a rhetorical question. in your whole post, you didn't really give a reason; you just bashed and generalized. hope you come back at some point to answer. please and thank you.

I hate to break it to this anonymous person, but our "fake" polls are not all that fake actually. Like Spektor said, freedom is winning and the bigots have already lost. It really is only a matter of time before the GLBT community receives full equality!

I feel sorry for negative people like anonymous; people like that are never truly happy so they seek to make others uphappy to try to make themselves feel better. Misery loves company ...

I would like to know bea, what do you mean by "only one group"? Obviously you mean gay marriage? But what are the other types of marriage that are legal? Straight marriage is the only one I can think of. (We don't allow polygamy or bestiality in the this country, for example.)

I believe the key here is that marriage, in its true definition, is defined as a HOLY union between a man and a woman.(sure, you can find other definitions, but this is the one that most christians believe to be true) Now im not saying it is right or it is wrong, gay marriage that is, but i do see why people who are raised with religion may not agree with gay marriage. Why not just call it something else, such as a 'harmonious bond'... and with that union, give it the same benefits as a married couple would have. THE BOTTOM LINE IS: marriage is defined as a man and a woman, and no matter how much the gay community wants to be a part of the 'marriage' thing, they may not, simply by the definition of the word itself. If i were gay, i certainly wouldn't want to be a part of something that didn't want me for who i am in the first place. (talk about being pushy) Furthermore, i don't think God is going to send you to hell for something you can't help. I do hope all the hate stops, and i hope everything get figured out eventually. But the word marriage is the problem, change that, and things may start being tolerated.

Don't think the christian god or any other kind of god is involved at all in civil marriage, so I don't see why Christians should object to it then, it's the same as saying the KKK had a right to object to black people being in the country and hey why not just ship them off all wholesale somewhere else as long as it is not called the USA. The Middle Ages ended more than 500 years ago, why is there no total separation between Church and State yet? No civil authority is forcing any religious denomination to marry homosexuals in their churches, or am I wrong there? Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm (happily) not American and may have some confusion about the minor details

Civil unions and other 'harmonious bonds' like Anonymous so kindly advocated are just another form of Seperate but Equal. Whenever you establish a difference between "normal" people and the "other," you establish a hierarchy and make it seem ok to beat down the minority.
You think people who want equality are pushy? Damn right. Because people like you make it necessary for people to push.

Furthermore, marriage is furthermore not a Christian right, but a right as an American citizen. People from every type of religious backgroud or ideologies marry. There are, furthermore, many religious groups who would be happy to bless a happy couple committed to each other.

The U.S. Constitution emphasizes a seperation betweent Church and State, therefore the
Christian view of marriage should have nothing to do with a legal rulling. If we are a country that truly believes one should pursue happiness, let people that love eachother get married, regardless of gender.
Also, I believe God has better things to send people to hell for, than two people who love and take care of eachother.
