Fox News host Geraldo Rivera of the program Geraldo at Large has made some remarks tonight after President Barack Obama spoke at the Human Rights Campaign.
In referencing Obama's comments about the Matthew Shepard hate crimes bill passing the house Geraldo as part of a broader commentary said:
"Matthew Shepard was killed because he was gay... apparently"
The words are shocking and offending not only to the memory of Matthew Shepard and his family, but to millions of Americans who honor him and want the hate crimes bill signed into law.
This slip of the tongue is unacceptable and cannot go unnoticed.

Al Capone's secret vault was empty...apparently.
Just like Geraldo's head...apparently.
Matthew Shepard was murdered because he was gay. Plain and simple. Yes, it was apparent, but to state it in that manner sullies it in such a way as to be more than simply demeaning. It's downright insulting to homosexuals as a whole.
Yeah the statement was fine up until he slipped that word in, what the hell did he mean by that?
