Anti-gay Bias on Fox News Live Poll on DADT

Conservative media giant Fox News has released a new biased and anti-gay poll on their website regarding Don't Ask Don't Tell. During the legislative debate on repeal of the military's ban on openly gay, lesbian and bisexual servicemembers there were a number of ridiculous arguments about how lifting the ban will risk national security. Fox News reinforces those absurd notions in their latest "non-scientific" poll.

Fox News asks its website visitors:

"Will Ending 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Affect America's Ability to Defend Itself?"

1. No -- Being gay is about someone's sexual preference, not their patriotism, acceptance of duty and their love of country.

2. Undecided -- We're in a war in Afghanistan, and I'm not sure that this is the right time to undo something that will affect our men and women in combat.

3. Yes -- At the core of an effective military is trust, and allowing a lifestyle that might cause some members of our military to feel uncomfortable cuts to the heart of that trust.

4. Other (post a comment)
Each option is negative towards the LGBT community. Either gay, lesbian and bisexual identity is a preference, it affects troop morale, or it is a lifestyle that makes others uncomfortable.

Also, the poll offers no option for people who believe that repealing DADT WILL affect America's ability to defend itself in a POSITIVE way. It assumes that people either think it will have no effect or that it will have a negative effect.

I noticed, after freeping the poll, that most people are saying the "No" option. Even with a biased poll, Faux News couldn't twist this one.

I also noticed that far fewer people "Liked" that Faux News disservice on Facebook than one would expect for such a "popular" network.

I don't think preference is necessarily a negative word. If I hate pistachio ice cream and eating it makes me want to vomit, but I love cookie dough ice cream and eating it makes me really happy, I still have a preference for cookie dough. It's still something I can't change and that would be unpleasant to try to.

That being said, the no positive option sucks and the other choices are definitely upsetting.

Anonymous I don't think sexuality is analogous to ice cream. For exmaple you may vomit with one flavor and enjoy another but you can still eat the pistachio. For some gay/lesbian people they are physically incapable of having sex with the opposite sex because to do so would be unnatural and their bodies do not want to cooperate.

Also preference to me seems like a ranking and would indicate that both options are liked but one is preferred. Sexuality can't be a preference if one sex is not an option.
