Open Forum: Will Part of the Trans Community Go Extinct?

Let me preface this open forum discussion with the fact that more transgender people are coming out than ever before and gender variation is the most accepted it has ever been (in modern societies that is). With the rise of gender bending, metrosexuality, feminism, and gender neutrality many males and females are expressing facets of both their masculinity and femininity. It is no longer uncommon in urban populaces to see cisgender heterosexual men neatly groomed displaying "feminine" attributes or stereotypically female products or to see a straight woman with short butch hair in a suit. Gender stereotypes are quickly dissipating and society is moving in a direction towards acceptance of gender expression. While we are still very far from being a truly genderless world we are growing increasingly tolerant and carefree about the irrelevance of someones gender identity or expression.

With gender (not sex) slowly becoming a thing of the past will there eventually be a contingent of the transgender community (crossdressers, drag queens/kings) who don't feel the need to opt for surgical changes but merely dress in the opposite gender from which they were born go extinct? In a world where cosmestics, mucles, facial hair, and expressions are no longer gender specific someone trying to genderbend will have no gender to play with because nothing will be distinctly male or female.

Remove Crossdressing from the DSM-V

A petition to remove cross-dressing as a mental disorder is being submitted to the Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders Workgroup of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). Currently the APA considers individuals who crossdress to be suffering from "transvestic disorder"

Crossdressing should not be considered a mental disorder for a host of reasons. The diagnostic criteria operates on sexist and gender conformist principles. People who crossdress present no harm to themselves and/or others and are not conflicted about their desire to dress. The only distress associated with crossdressing is the unfair stigmatization that comes from a society that does not accept nor understand this behavior.

Bill O'Reilly: "Teaching About Cross Dressing is Social Engineering"

A harmless video being shown to elementary school children in California to teach respect for cross-dressers is outraging the right-wing media. O'Reilly and his republican strategist guest Margaret Hoover are saying its "inappropriate" to teach about cross dressing and that this is a "small segment of the population that's not worth discussing".

He claims that this video is tantamount to "social engineering" and that "they have a lot of power" ratcheting up fears that the gay and transgender community are trying to infiltrate schools with a queer agenda.

Take Action: Hunters Nightclubs Creates Obstacle for Trans Folks

Hunters Nightclub in Chicago in an effort to crack down on prostitution is forcing clients to have their appearance match their legal identity on their photo ID. This new rule unfairly discriminates against many transgender people who either crossdress on occasion, or those who have not taken legal measures to change their gender status.

"Hunters Nightclub reluctantly imposed its new ID requirement because cross-dressing prostitutes were advertising on Craigslist and mentioning the establishment, said manager Peter Landorf.

They're implying they're coming here," said Landorf, whose new rule could cut down on his cross-dressing clientele. "If it is prostitution in any form, that could cost me my liquor license" (Chicago Tribune).
Call Hunters and let them know that you will not stand for discrimination against our transgender brothers and sisters and that an alternative solution is necessary to avoid banning certain clientele.
