Did You 'Call In Gay'?

Share your thoughts and activism on this day of action. Did you call in to work or school as 'gay' or 'gay friendly'? Are you boycotting products, or doing something in the realm of queer activism in your own special way? Let us know!

I did let my professor know that I was not going to be attending class due to my condition of gayness. She laughed, and told me she wasn't going to be holding class due to hers :)

I also refuse to purchase anything today, and I would like to get involved with some form of volunteer work but didn't find anything here, so I guess my blogging counts.

Oh man, not buying anything is a great idea. I wish I'd thought of that before I bought that dry ass philly cheesesteak *bleh*

For me calling in gay would mean that I'd miss my last two exams and probably...not do so well in both those classes. It's great that your teacher called in gay as well! This would be a great time to visit our campus GLBT group that I've only been attempting to go to for months *note to damn self*

yeah T.R. don't miss those exams, but you could always do something a little queer, such as wear a button or come out to someone I don't know lol.

OMG that anonymous is obsessive with the gay people, perhaps he is bi.curious. Well I have to agree with you in something, communist and fascist goverments always turn on ther supporters, is a fact.

That's why Queer anarchy is so important! :) I called out Queer today and I'm collecting food for Seattle's LGBTQ homeless youth via F-n-N N. Seattlehttp://foodnotbombsnorthseattle.blogspot.com/

I'm not buying crap today, unless it's from a LGBT owned shop, but it's not likely I'll be shopping anyway.

Is there an update on where things are at regarding prop. 8?

So...Anon is suggesting that LGBT communities do better under a theocracy than communist/fascist systems? Lost.

Spreading this around on Facebook instead, I know a few of my friends would love to just say no to school/work for a day...for a good cause, of course.

I called in gay today. I am lucky that I work in an office that wouldn't fire me for being gay. You can do that in Oklahoma. I hope that this makes an impact, but not sure if it will.

You bet.

This was covered on the SLC afternoon newscast. It was basically a reminder that in Utah, one can be fired for doing this.

Sad, but true.

I'm unemployed, but I didn't run the errands and spend the money I had planned to today.

I'm a little surprised at all the hostility I see online about "Day without a Gay," like we are threatening capitalism, or something. Or trying to punish straight people by not showing up to work. I guess the people making those comments have some form of homophobia, instead of just knowing it's not their thing, or even just telling us how to live or who to marry; they actually feel hostility towards us. The Religious Right is bad enough; fag bashers are worse.

Well, my Day Without a Gay (besides myself!)was spent at home, not spending any money and writing letters to President-elect Obama requesting he address our rights in his inaguration speech and to the NY Times commenting on the "Gay Mob" advertisement recently run by the Religious Right. You can read my letters on My MySpace Blog. I plan to keep up my QUEER VISIBILITY every day!

It wasn't so well received on AVEN, but I participated in some sense. I have a broken foot and haven't worked since last month...
