International coffee chain Starbucks has released a statement to its Washington employees and the public stating the companies support for approving referendum 71. The bill would ensure that all couples regardless of orientation would be able to have access to domestic partnership rights.
Starbucks says the measure is basic common sense, and wants voters to appove it because...
"it is aligned with our business practices, providing domestic partner benefits, and one of our core values of treating people with respect and dignity.”Starbucks joins Microsoft, Boeing, Nike, and many other companies that employ large numbers of people in the Pacific Northwest that have endorsed the measure.
With 3,000 employees in its Seattle headquarters and 667 stores in Washington state, it may just be the influence needed to tip the balance.
