Sarah Palin Supports Federal Marriage Amendment

In an interview with the Christian Broadcast News, Sarah Palin was asked about whether she would support a federal constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. She said they "instituted a ban on gay marriage in Alaska and that she would like to see that happen nationally". Ironically Sarah Palin goes on to say that she is not in a position to judge others, and just wants to express her point of view. It is neither an expression nor a lack of judging others when you systematically deny over 1,049 rights and benefits that come along with marriage equality.

Biden & Palin on Same-Sex Partner Benefits

Last night during the vice presidential debate between Senator Joe Biden (D) and Governor Sarah Palin (R) the issue of same-sex partner benefits came up. Biden stated that we must advance civil rights, while not "redefining marriage" and Palin said that she supports only "one man and one woman marriage" but that she is "tolerant" and that a "McCain/Palin administration would not be a roadblock to having things like hospital visitation rights for same-sex couples".

Sarah Palin - "People Choose to be Gay"

Sarah Palin in an interview with Katie Couric of CBS Evening News had the following to say about homosexuality.

"As for homosexuality - I'm not going to judge Americans and the decisions that they make in their adult, personal relationships. I have - um - one of my absolute best friends for the last thirty years who happens to be gay - and I love her dearly. She is not my gay friend. She is one of my best friends, who happens to have made a choice that isn't a choice that I have made."

And this woman wants to be our vice president? Can I get a HELL NO?

Sarah "Book Banning" Palin's Vendetta Against Gay Books

We reported earlier about Sarah Palin's pro-censorship position regarding books in her local library of Wasilla Alaska, while she was mayor. ABC reported that Palin wanted specific books banned but those reports have likely been unsubstantiated, fact remains she did inquire about the process of removing books, three times!

Now according to the New York Times some colleagues of Mrs. Palin have said she wanted to remove a children's book called "Daddy's Roommate" for gay families that helps kids understand different family structures.

"But in 1995, Ms. Palin, then a city councilwoman, told colleagues that she had noticed the book “Daddy’s Roommate” on the shelves and that it did not belong there, according to Ms. Chase and Mr. Stein. Ms. Chase read the book, which helps children understand homosexuality, and said it was inoffensive; she suggested that Ms. Palin read it.

“Sarah said she didn’t need to read that stuff,” Ms. Chase said. “It was disturbing that someone would be willing to remove a book from the library and she didn’t even read it.”

“I’m still proud of Sarah,” she added, “but she scares the bejeebers out of me.”
Sarah Palin is a grave threat to our civil liberties as Americans and in particular a danger to the LGBT community. There is no doubt in my mind that QU made the right decision in endorsing the Obama/Biden ticket.

Sarah Palin Is All About Censorship

As Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, Sarah Palin now Vice Presidential candidate running alongside John McCain inquired about the process of removing books from her local library. Rumor has it Sarah Palin inquired about the process of removing books she did not approve of. Including "Go Ask Alice" and "Pastor, I am Gay." Regardless of whether she did ask for specific books to be removed and/or fired the librarian in the story, this goes to show Sarah Palin is all about censorship. Below is a clip from Brian Ross of ABC who has covered the story.

John McCain What Do You Have Against Equality?

HRC is asking people to submit the following letter through its online form.

"Dear Sen. McCain,

In California, Arizona and around the country, committed same-sex couples want nothing more than the legal recognition of their relationships that heterosexual couples enjoy.

You have built a political image as a "maverick" willing to cut against the partisan grain. Why then are you siding with the most radical agents of intolerance on the issue of marriage rights?

There is nothing "pro-family" about telling two adults in a committed relationship that their commitment has less value than that of other couples. There is nothing "pro-family" about stigmatizing and marginalizing loving families. The California ballot initiative would not strengthen the institution of marriage; it would weaken it.

I am surprised that you are embracing blatantly discriminatory measures and supporting these divisive and cynical ploys. Please stop supporting these anti-GLBT amendments."

Palin is Failin When it Comes to Queer Rights

Senator John McCain the Republican presumptive nominee for President has selected Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate.

Palin is an ardent conservative who will help McCain appeal to the right-wing Christian base while also possibly attracting some disenfranchised Hillary Clinton voters.

Palin has a strong position against equal rights for LGBT people.

She is quoted as saying:

"I am pro-life and I believe that marriage should only be between one man and a woman. I am opposed to any expansion of gambling in Alaska." (Nov 2006)
Palin however is more open to homosexuality than other republicans...
"Palin said she's not out to judge anyone and has good friends who are gay, but that she supported the 1998 constitutional amendment.

Elected officials can't defy the court when it comes to how rights are applied, she said, but she would support a ballot question that would deny benefits to homosexual couples.

"I believe that honoring the family structure is that important," Palin said.

She said she doesn't know if people choose to be gay."
(Anchorage Daily News)

The only positive thing Palin has done for LGBT rights was when she vetoed legislation that would have barred the state from granting benefits to partners of gay state employees. She did so because the court said it was the right to do and she did not want to defy the courts ruling.(Gay)

"She said,"So we may disagree with the foundation there, the rationale behind the ruling, but our responsibility is to proceed forward with the law and abide by the constitution."

NEW INFO: "A 2006 questionnaire completed by Sarah Palin during her race for the Alaska governorship sheds some light on her views of gay rights and other issues.

The questionnaire, sponsored by Eagle Forum Alaska, a conservative group, asked, “Will you support an effort to expand hate crime laws?”

She replied, “No, as I believe all heinous crime is based on hate.”

Palin also answered a question about extending spousal benefits to domestic partners.

The question read, “Do you support the Alaska Supreme Court’s ruling that spousal benefits for state employees should be given to same-sex couples? Why or why not?”

She replied, “No, I believe spousal benefits are reserved for married citizens as defined in our constitution.”

Another question asked for Palin’s priorities “in relationship to families.”

Her second priority listed was, “Preserving the definition of ‘marriage’ as defined in our constitution.”

The questionnaire also asked whether candidates would support funding for abstinence-until-marriage programs, an issue that hits close to home for Palin, whose 17-year-old daughter is five months pregnant.

Her response: “Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.” (Sovo)

Sarah Palin is on all accounts a right-wing Christian conservative, and Queers and anyone concerned about the future of this country should be dedicated to her defeat.
