Demand NJ Governor Sign Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has yet to sign or veto the anti-bullying bill which was passed in light of the recent suicides in the LGBT community. Christie an anti-gay politician is opposed to nearly all forms of gay rights legislation and promised to veto any marriage equality legislation under his leadership. He has yet to decide whether to sign the anti-bullying bill and maintains he is conflicted about the measure.

The bipartisan bill passed nearly unanimously in both chambers.

The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights would:

• Require training for educators on bullying prevention.

• Require school districts to have anti-bullying programs.

• Provide the Department of Education with the tools it needs to help districts combat bullying.

• Clarify investigation procedures and mandating investigation by school staff.

• Require educators to report all bullying they learn of, on or off school grounds.

• Require enhanced reporting to the public about how schools and districts are handling bullying and harassment. (Out In Jersey)

Governor Christie has had several weeks to review the legislation. It is time he protect the students of New Jersey and sign this bill into law.

TAKE ACTION: Hawaiian Governor Decides on Civil Unions Today!

Hawaiian Governor Linda Lingle (R) has to decide today whether to sign, veto, or let the civil unions bill just become law. Lingle has met with both sides of the debate and has been mum as to how she will act.

Mike Huckabee Ties Marriage Equality to Gay Sexual Acts

Former Governor of Arkansas and Republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee continues his attacks on the LGBT community. In referring to gay marriage the politician talked of the "ick factor" because the thought of two men or women having sex troubles him.

Huckabee has been called out for these and other outrageous remarks but continues to shrug them off. He insists that the LGBT community is hypocritical because one of our used the term "ick factor" and thinks if we can use it so can he. He also maintains that we want to "talk about the issues" at our convenience but not when the opposition brings them up.



Tell Mr. Huckabee discussion of marriage equality has nothing to do with gay sex his interest/or disinterest in it and his effort to tie the two together is irresponsible and down right icky.

Nevada Governor on Domestic Partnerships: "I Don't Believe In It"

Republican Governor Jim Gibbons of Nevada has vowed to veto legislation that would give some of the rights of marriage to same-sex couples through domestic partnerships legislation.

Asked about the measure now under consideration in the state Senate, the Republican governor says he would reject it if it reaches his desk because, “I just don’t believe in it” (Tahoe Daily Tribune).

Vermont Governor Threatens to Veto Marriage Bill, Act Now!

Vermont Governor Jim Douglas is threatening to veto the marriage equality bill that has sailed through the senate by a 26-4 vote, and now goes on to the house for final approval.

He maintains that civil unions are equal and that Vermont needs to focus on the economy. Yet, when asked if he would trade his marriage for a civil union, he swiftly replies that he would not. What he also fails to realize is that gay marriage is a boost for the economy, and that going against the majority of the people and the legislature is unconstitutional.



Please urge everyone regardless of their home state, to call AND email the governor and tell him to retract his message and support marriage equality.

Newsom for California Exploratory Committee

San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom has been a true hero and ally to the LGBT community. In 2004 he was on of the first to "break the law" when he ordered the San-Francisco city county clerk to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. He has been a consistent and outspoken supporter of LGBT rights and does so even in the face of his own political risk.

Gavin Newsom has now set up an exploratory committee in looking to become the next Governor of the state of California. The LGBT community owes this man our great support and we must champion his efforts.

ImpACT Florida Gathering for Governors Wedding

The group ImpACT Florida is organizing a statewide event on Dec 12th to "congratulate" Governor Charlie Crist on his wedding. The point of the event is to show the hypocrisy of the governor (who is widely speculated to be a closeted gay) to have supported proposition 2 which has now banned gay marriage in Florida. He grants himself rights, he doesn't want others to have.

Urge Vermont Governor to Support Marriage Equality

Vermont was the first state in the union to sign into law a civil unions bill under than governor Howard Dean (D). Since that time lawmakers have been challenging the civil unions law which does not provide full equal benefits to gay and lesbian couples. The house is likely to take up a bill upgrading civil unions to full marriage equality this session.

The current governor Jim Douglas (R) has come out in opposition to marriage equality and feels civil unions are adequate. He has yet to indicate whether he would veto this bill if it comes to his desk.

"Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas said Thursday he would oppose legislation allowing same-sex marriages, saying the state's civil unions law is adequate and that lawmakers should be focusing on the state's money problems.

State Sen. John Campbell says he plans to introduce such legislation in the Legislature's upcoming session. "I think the current civil union law is sufficient," Douglas said. "It accords equality of rights to Vermonters in terms of their relationships and I think we should leave the law as it is." Campbell said the bill is unlikely to gain support in the Legislature unless Douglas gives a clear signal he would sign it – or allow it to become law without his signature.

But Douglas balked at sending any such signal. "I never indicate what I might do when a bill gets to my desk, but I've been quite clear that I don't support the legislation," said Douglas, a Republican." (JMG)

It is imperative that we begin to contact the governor and urge him to sign into law a marriage equality bill should it eventually come to his desk. We must remind him that regardless of how he personally feels about marriage it is wrong to create a separate and unequal institution for LGBT people.

New York Recognizes Out of State Same-Sex Marriages
