Androgynous Musician "Prince" Makes Anti-Gay Name for Self

The always androgynous, sexually ambiguous Prince has come out with his anti-gay sentiments. In an interview with a Christian businessman he made an inference to the biblical cities "Sodom & Gomorrah" indicating that God wiped out those cities due to widespread homosexuality.

"He pointed to a Bible. But there’s the problem of interpretation, and you’ve got some churches, some people, basically doing things and saying it comes from here, but it doesn’t. And then on the opposite end of the spectrum you’ve got blue, you’ve got the Democrats, and they’re, like, ‘You can do whatever you want.’ Gay marriage, whatever. But neither of them is right.” When asked about his perspective on social issues—gay marriage, abortion—Prince tapped his Bible and said, “God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out. He was, like, ‘Enough." (JMG)
Prince may be androgynous and helps breaking down label barriers, but he is far from royal when it comes to issues of diversity, boycott Prince!

That statement is somewhat vague. I love his work enough to wait this out and see if he clarifies.

whats to clarify -- PRINCE is DEAD to me!

Queers United said...

It doesn't seem vague to me he is asked about gay marriage talks about people sticking things places (anal sex) and that god said enough (wiped out the city).

Wow...what a horribly homophobic thing to say for such an incredible artist! Unbelievable!!! Well, even if he clarifies his statements, I believe this to be how he really feels otherwise he wouldn't have said it in the first place. What a shock for all homosexual prince fans!

And being one of those gay prince fans I am extremely dissappointed. Growing up with Prince I always understood him to be free loving and against social stereotypes. As a Christian I was equally excited to hear his spirituality reflected in his music. Unfortunately it seems that he has drank from the fundementalist fountain. Sad really, we can still love God and appreciate the infinite diversity, sexual and otherwise of His creations.

He should have just kept his mouth shut, knowing as he must, that he had gay fans. Once again, organized religion rears its ugly head where it doesn't belong.

Gimme me a break! Prince, or whatever his name is now, is as gay as anyone could ever be. Does he honestly believe he can fool anyone with his ridiculous pretentions??? He needs to get over himself! He can't even decide what he wants his name to be, so I guess it is not surprising that he would "waffle" on his sexual orientation as well. Maybe since record sales aren't going anywhere, he has discovered he can make some $$$ by selling his thoughts (like someone cares what they are) to some so-called christian right-wing whack-o.

Prince sucked then and he sucks now. He's just a mean little man who suffers from the highly compensational "little man's" disease.

I'm way ahead of you on the boycott thing. I've been boycotting his work for many, many years. He just was too needy - too high maintenance - for me. "I don't have a name, I have a symbol." Fine, can't ask for your cd at the store then, can I? It's sad, though, that he tries to make money off of a community for which he shows such disrespect.

Do we have to boycott? Can we just steal his music, he is really good!

I'd say the way to boycott him and not buy his music but at the same token listen to it is, to burn cds from friends and download online.

Prince is so desperate for attention and hits. Not buying his music will due no good because he is known to buying 100 thousands of his own CD's on first week of the released for higher sells – Bwahahaha!!! I betcha you will see a huge jump on his albums sold within a month from now and I don’t need to explain to you all on why or how . Best is to ignore him and deal with real issues and continue to FIGHTS FOR THE H8. He is old and I guess botox, make-up, duck tapes, tight pants, and 6 inches Monolo shoes are no longer works for him. LMAO!!

Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for a plethora of reasons, not just homosexuality. If Prince isn't comfortable with far left liberals, fine. I'm not comfortable with far right conservatives but they can say what they want. It has no bearing on my beliefs and why should Prince's philosophy affect YOUR beliefs?

After reading the Bible verses that Prince refers to, he is right. You don't need an interpretation on it, its plain and very easy to read and understand the contend even if you read it from the very first verse. God destroyed those two cities because of its gross depravity. So regardless of what a priest or the Democrats or whoever say, the biblical expression on this is clear, God condemned homosexuality! It was true then and its true now!

Unknown said...

Why would you boycott someone just because they disagree with this lifestyle? Prince is still a great singer and songwriter. So according to the way Gays think its like "if they don't like the way you think we will boycott you"! So if African-Americans don't believe that gay marriages are equal to traditional marriages, they (the Gays) will hate AA's to! What an odd way of thinking.

I believe if you read the biblical text on this you will find that it was not a "plethora" of reasons but really a small few: they disobeyed God's commands and "they practice gross immorality" that's it!
If you feel there is more that am missing please fill me in.

Before you make a statement that " the Bible does not..." please know what you're talking about, here is the verse from Genesis 19:1 "Now the two angels arrived at Sod′om by evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sod′om. When Lot caught sight of them, then he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the earth. 2 And he proceeded to say: “Please, now, my lords, turn aside, please, into the house of YOUR servant and stay overnight and have YOUR feet washed. Then YOU must get up early and travel on YOUR way.” To this they said: “No, but in the public square is where we shall stay overnight.” 3 But he was very insistent with them, so that they turned aside to him and came into his house. Then he made a feast for them, and he baked unfermented cakes, and they went to eating.

4 Before they could lie down, the men of the city, the men of Sod′om, surrounded the house, from boy to old man, all the people in one mob. 5 And they kept calling out to Lot and saying to him: “Where are the men who came in to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have intercourse with them.”

Was that clear enough for you? Am here because I came across this site because it
mention Prince. I'm a Prince fan.

But you are imposing your views on us! Your group interrupted a religious services the other day throw and yelling about your views! Gays marrying is NOT a civil rights issue! I don't know where you people get that from. Please look at the Constitution and read it!
So don't tell me about Civil Rights pal, as an AA who walked with MLK you don't have the a civil rights issue or any other issue to state a case on.

No its not just about rape but the rape and wantonness sex of two men! Male on male sex! Its very clear. I don't see how its possible to miss that. But how you people think for a second that the God of the Bible would condone gay sex when he created male and female for the expressed purpose of having children and enjoyment. Two penis's can't produce a child! Its not how the process work! Surly you can see that. Babies are not come from the rear end of a man! What is the problem here? "What is wrong with you people?"

Unknown said...

You gays are so odd! Prince is entitled to his opinions just like you are entitled to yours. What is so surprising by what he said? Prince is not a P C type of guy. He doesn't have to be. The problem with you folks are you have the idiots in the media telling you that Americans as a whole love gay people, and we don't! We care about the person but hate the lifestyle! Do away with the lifestyle and we love the person. Its that simply.

Unknown said...

Are you nuts! God didn't produce or create gay people! So MLK Jr. was gay? Martin Luther King Jr. was gay according to you? WOW! Trust me on this one, am not obsessed with gay sex! But you folks are obsessed with us (straights) not being obsessed with gay sex! We don't give a crap! Just stop demanding something you're not entitled to!

We can no more do away with the way God made us gay, than can you can with the way god made your skin color black. I am done with this convo, you can remain in the dark ages or choose to embrace a "lifestyle" of acceptance.

Anonymous said...

Given the social situation in the time when the American Constitution was written, I am surprised it doesn't define marriage as a union of a man and a woman of the same race. Probably that was just an omission. We can't base our modern views on what went undisputed in the dark ages. In a true democracy, minorities are granted the same rights as the majority of the population and this is not up to the majority to vote if such right should be extended to those who are somehow different. This is not a matter of religion - state matters and religion affairs should never intertwine. This is a matter of the state to ensure that the rights of all minorities are respected.

Romans 1:26-27 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."

I've been a lesbian for most of my 40+ years - I'm also a Christian.
The Bible makes it crystal clear regarding being gay as being wrong. Men and/or women.

Stop hiding behind the gay community's twisted Bible verses - Romans,as well as in other books of the Bible, doesn't stutter when it comes to this subject.

Be an adult - and for once proclaim "I'm gay and I'm a sinner" - I have.

The world wants to change God's words and meanings into something more suitable to its sinful desires. Nevertheless, the truth stands: The Bible condemns homosexuality as a sin. Let's look at what it says.

Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."

Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them"

1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."

Homosexuality is clearly condemned by the Bible. It goes against the created order of God. He created Adam and then made a woman. This is what God has ordained and it is what is right. Unlike other sins, homosexuality has a severe judgment administered by God Himself. This judgment is simple: They are given over to their passions. That means that their hearts are allowed to be hardened by their sins (Romans 1:18ff). As a result, they can no longer see the error of what they are doing. Without an awareness of their sinfulness, there will be no repentance and trusting in Jesus. Without Jesus, they will have no forgiveness. Without forgiveness, there is no salvation.

I don't believe in the bible, many read it in the context of the time it was written and do not view it as anti-gay. My God is affirming of queer people. So you can preach all you want but you have the wrong target audience.

Anonymous said...

Most gays don't believe in the Bible - or they believe in it with a few 'alterations'.

Not preaching but I too am gay - and being a devout believer in God, I have struggled. But bottom line I, as a gay person, cannot expect to change the Bible and what it says - just because I would prefer a more 'lenient' God.

Anonymous said...

That would be akin to a murderer, let's say - going through the Bible twisting this and striking through that... to try and make it read that being a murderer isn't a sin. When it clearly is.
"Mankind", we humans, gay or straight, have a habit of not wanting to feel guilt or be held accountable for our choices. That is human nature.
I'm also a human, a gay human but one that has struggled all my life because of what the Bible clearly says about it.

So while I guess I'll always be 'gay' and I don't feel I can change that part of me - but I can change acting out on it.

Tough life, yeah - but I have weighed out the pros and cons of it.
Do I want 80 or so years of self indulgence to make ME happy, or do I want eternity being happy.

That's a no brainer to me.

Wow! Anonymous, get some perspective. How many times have you said "God Dammit". Not taking the Lord's name in vain is one of the Ten Commandments, so is "Thou Shalt not Kill", but I don't see any sane person equating one to the other. Homosexuality may be a sin, but it's certainly not one in need of the "Special Wrath of God", and certainly no worse than fornication or adultery, both sins the hypocrites who condemn homosexuality (especially Prince) are guilty of.

I know i was different at the age of 4 years old.

I didnt choose my feelings

I'm a male who like men ( now 34 y.o)

I'm loving and caring about myself and other persons

If you think that i'm a sinner then that's what you believe in , you are entiteld to your own thinking

I believe in love/selflove , a divine source (non judging) where we all are connected with.

I believe in freedom

And if there is a god and he doesnt like how i'm living then i will deal with him sooner or later and in the mean time you better concern about your own life/person. Nobody's perfect look at yourself your own life !

Free your mind and love yourself .

I posted something on my blog about this as well:

http://rheasmoods.blogspot.com

Also....a lot of this has caused me to rethink a previous position on my blog about gay marriage. To be honest, if anyone wants to engage in this instiution and they are in a committed relationship [as I hope to be with someone at some date] then for crying out loud the society should not stop it. After all...to be honest, the straights have an obscenely high divorce rate as it stands yet they complain about gays, lesbians, trans etc.

One cannot argue from a superior position, if one is part of a situation that has more holes in it than the Titanic.

Anonymous said...

Another thought here folks....look on the previous blog posting and see if you see youself in this. If only because well..Prince and others would want us to hide who we are for some unknown reason. But he and his ilk would be free to do whatever....makes no sense here, that is for damn sure.

I've been lurking on this blog for a while, and even posted once. With all of this talk about gay straight, trans, and intersex, gender versus biology, why are so many posters quick to label Prince as gay or a closeted queen? The way I see it, LGBT people are NO different from straight people when it comes to their assessment of people who are either different or somehow a threat or in opposition to them.

For one, I'm a Christian who feels that homosexuality is a sin. But I read this blog, not because I'm gay obsessed or whatever label you wish to put on me as some kinda ironic put-down, but because I realize that at the end of the day I DON'T want to be one of those people just spewing bible verses without making a concerted effort to get to know people, their causes, and concerns. (Sorry if I'm insulting you or making you feel like some kinda lab experiment). So one thing I DEFINITELY feel I have learned or rather, GATHERED from this site, is that you view sexuality and gender identity as being on a continuum. I can actually get down on that (meaning I tend to agree). Just because someone is stereotypically gay, doesn't make it true and vice-versa. And don't get me started on the whole bi-sexual leanings! You can accept that a person can be 10% gay and 90% straight if that what they say and it doesn't matter if they feel they're a woman born in a man's body or some combination of a man and woman, you say everyone is welcomed and accepted for who they are. And I THOUGHT stereotypes were what this community was against no matter who they are directed toward. So again, I understand WHY a "less enlightened" straight community may deem Prince as fruity, by why is the gay community no better? Why can't he be hetero but simply like or have a fetish for a particular style and/or behavior associated with being queer or gay? Why are you (the posters) labeling him as a self-hating closeted gay simply because he says something you don't like?

I always am told that I'm inherently a bigot for believing, in what is my opinion, the Word of God, and it's stance on homosexuality. Pretty I can read the book VERBATIM without inserting my own opinion and I'm a gaybasher! I've even caught myself feeling some kinda "hetero guilt" for previously making uneducated assumptions and judgments on LGBT. But I'm working on that. I want, if I have to open my mouth for or against gays, that it be not simply because the Bible told me so. But I guess in the end you guys were right to fight for equality, you're JUST like EVERYONE else. You talk a good game of acceptance and tolerance of pretty much ALL behavior/lifestyles whether one agrees with or not, yet the same things you get angry with straights for doing to ya'll, you do it right back when you don't agree with a person's religious stance or personal belief. You find somehow to belittle them, which I don't see how that makes the situation any better.

I guess I'll continue to lurk for now. Don't be mad at me cuz I don't agree, or may never agree. It's just the type of person I am. I like knowledge and like to know what others around the world and country believe and think and maybe if I'm lucky, I get a glimpse of the WHY of it all. Believe me, as a black female, moderate Democrat, I've been known to go on white supremacists websites just to see how the "other side" lives. Knowledge can only free and empower you.

S-H-E-E-P. That's what you all of you are. Quoting from the bible, and arguing about what "god" wants as if "god" didn't belong in the same category as The Tooth Fairy, The Easter Bunny, Juno, Nepture, Zeus, Santa Claus, and Tinker Bell. HELLO!!!! THEY'RE NOT REAL! WAKE THE EFF UP and start living your life the best way that YOU know how to. Not the way some book tells you to. Damn! You people are ignorant.
Try reading some truly enlightening books by people who actually USE their brains to THINK, instead of filling it with "isms" and regurgitating ignorant nonsense that was taught to them by people regurgitating what was taught to them, none of whom ever stopped to research ANYTHING.

Do you ever wonder why religion is handed down to you to the exclusion of all rational thought? Do you never question the answer to the question WHY? Religion is the oldest brain washing technique there is. They tell you something that flies in the face of all rational thought and when you ask for proof they say you must simply have faith or you're a bad person. Or worse yet, you're threatened with HELL. They lie to you about a god that no one could prove, then they lie to you about a punishment that doesn't exist. They ostracize you if you question it, and they groom you to do the same thing to your own children.

Please!!! Before you say another word in a public forum, educate yourselves. Read:

The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins

Atheist Universe: The Thinking Person's Answer to Christian Fundamentalism by David Mills

Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris

The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason by Sam Harris

And a final word to allaboutnothin who asked:
Why would you boycott someone just because they disagree with this lifestyle? The answer:
Because that person supports and enables the individuals and/or institutions that continue to LEGISLATE the INEQUALITY that AFFECTS the lives of millions of gay and lesbian citizens, that's why. Boycotting is the only power that gay and lesbian people have right now. When gay people are free to enjoy all the civil rights granted to the rest of the population, then Prince could say whatever the hell he wants to, and no-one would give a damn what he thought. ****It's not merely a "difference of opinion" when a group with one opinion has power over the group with the other opinion.**** Kind of like when most Americans considered black people not fully human citizens and legislated away their freedoms. People in power are so self-absorbed that they will hand over no right or privilege unless coerced. That's why gay and lesbian rights must be FEDERALLY MANDATED by the SUPREME Court. That's how blacks earned their equality and that's how gays will eventually get it.

Here's a great quote I found on the internet: "We can no longer afford to be respectful and tolerant of others' religious beliefs when those beliefs could do us all in".

tolerance and comfort i think get confused.
if a straight man is tolerent then he is accepting. if he is comfortable. this is the
part that if dont get. if a man tries to kiss
a straight man, should he be comfortable with
that. i dont think you can be straight and be that comfortable.
