Unified Voice - Stand for Civil Partnerships

The people at Unified Voice believe that America is not ready for marriage equality, so instead their focus is on taking it one step at a time, securing as many rights as possible. They hope that through their action they can secure civil partnerships in all 50 states by 2020.

Sign the petition to grant full civil partnership benefits on a federally recognized level.

Are you kidding, civil partnerships in all states in 12 years. This is progress? I have news for you. The religious right is not only against gay marriage, they would shuffle you off into a gas chamber if they could. Smarten up and understand, this is a movement that must demand full equality and treatment under the law or you are throwing future generations under the bus. Enough is enough. If we are not standing for full equality now, at least we should be fighting for a "gay" discount on all taxes.

Brian - I am all for full equality, I think we should use both tactics and take as much as we can get, and from there fight for full equality. Look at civil unions in CT, NJ, VT, CT has already switched and the others are likely to follow suit.

I think that a non-marriage civil union is not a lesser substitute of marriage, but it might be its successor. I like this post where a private marriage is discussed. If this kind of civil union is attractive for the heterosexual couples, traditional marriage may become obsolete.
