Signing for Something - Resign From the Mormon Church

Hundreds of gay and straight Mormons are resigning from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints over the Church's funding and propaganda regarding proposition 8, that led to a ban on same-sex marriage in California.

Many families with deep ties to the LDS Church are resigning in droves because they feel it was wrong for the church to get involved with a political issue, especially one that is as divisive as gay marriage. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been taught, “We do not believe it just to mingle religious influence with civil government …” (Doctrine and Covenants 134:9). In addition many Mormons do not feel their faith represents them on the issue of homosexuality, and marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples.

Below is a recent news assignment done covering the Signing for Something movement which has now helped hundreds of people leave the LDS movement.

You're anger regarding Prop 8 is certainly understandable and reasonable. What is not reasonable is your focus on the Mormon Church. The frustration should be focused on the State. This is a constitutional issue not a voting issue. The Church has the same rights as everyone else in this country. Note - I am not Mormon. I simply ask that individual rights be respected. I don't concur with their beliefs but they are entitled to their beliefs just as the g/l communities are entitled to theirs. Please read my blog concerning this issue:

Hope4Equality - I am not Mormon either but this is a post to Mormons who feel ostracized and are looking to leave this institution.

Scot - You can always encourage family and friends to get out too.

OH PA-LEASE! Those who are leaving the church abviously aren't strong members. Good riddens. There are 13 million people who think otherwise and stand behind the church's pro-marriage, NOT anti-gay, veiws.

P.S. I AM A MORMON. One thing that needs to be stressed is this: The Mormon church IS perfect. The members are NOT!

This blog and similar blogs are the real reason there is so much miss information about prop 8. Not one cent was donated from the LDS Church, members of that church donated the church itself did no such thing. So if you are looking to be factual and put the truth out there you should do the same. That church funded nothing. Be honest stop creating hate.

No they just used the churches as a political pulpit to preach for the yes on h8 campaign, the Mormon church violated their tax exemption and will be held accountable.

The LDS Church absolutely did not violate their tax exempt status. The church leaders encouraged its members to take part in our country's democratic process as well as to vote according to what the church's stardards are. To violate their tax exempt status they would need to preach against something that is legal, members voted on an amendment to more clearly define a word. The church leaders did not preach at all from the pulpit about what is right or wrong.
PS my previous post merely question 'queersunited' making false accusations about the church financing prop 8 your response had no such comments about that. It is very clear that the church did not fund prop 8 but I certainly understand that makes for a far better attack and headline from the left wing media. And certainly makes people uncomfortable thinking that the LDS church was doing that.

To everyone commenting for Prop 8..reach real deep into your closet, I bet even YOU have something in there. And you know what? I'd even march for YOUR cause if it meant you were going to lose a right.

Some blacks who voted for and are supporting Prop. 8 are saying it is NOT a civil rights issue. I beg to differ. Do you remember separate drinking fountains? Separate toilet facilities? Separate schools? When it was illegal to marry out of ones race? I ask, would YOU go back to those days?
Get the picture???

Actually I do not get the picture at all. Comparing segregation to this gay marriage agenda is entirely different. Your comparison is based in fantasy not reality. Blacks cannot chose their race you make a conscious decision everyday to be gay. What if 14 year olds all of a sudden they decided they should be able to drink. Because you want something you do not automatically get it.

To all those who are "signing for something", just wanted to say - don't let the door hit ya!

Mormons are nice folks, when you agree with their way of life and walk the same line as they do. They can even live with you or around you when you don't believe the same things they do, but they will try and convert you. It comes to the point where you have to almost attack them to get them to leave you alone. They are nice folks for the most part like I said, but they have a dark side which is really part of the social structure in which they live. Through social means they will crush opposition until they are in more powerful positions. . . most likely. Hell, it's just an idea.
