Word of the Gay: "Ambisexual"

An "ambisexual" is a synonym for bisexual and describes people who don't discriminate when it comes to attraction of genders. The "ambi" component of the word suggests ambiguity with regards to sexual orientation.

This one's new for me, and I like it! The photo looks like some sort of mathematical equation-- (woman) times (love for men) divided by (love for women) equals... uh... totally queer.

But... but... but I'm not at all ambiguous or ambivalent about my orientation - I'm really clear that I'm attracted to people of the same or similar sex/gender/gender identity AND people of other sexes/genders/gender identities. No ambiguity there!

Actually ambi isn't for ambiguous, it's a prefix that means both. As in ambidextrous. I think the notion that it means we're ambiguous about our preference is an old stereotype that the gay and lesbian community can't seem to let go of. As Anonymous said - thank you, but we're really clear. Unfortunately we can't seem to get any respect for it. Luckily, the great sex makes up for it ;p)
