Anti-Gay Democrat Tim Kaine Selected as DNC Chair

Tim Kaine has been selected as chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Mr. Kaine is anti civil union and has endorsed an amendment banning same-sex marriage.

Click here to ask why LGBT democrats should support a party whose chair is anti civil unions and more anti-gay than John McCain.

I am mildly surprised, I expected Obama to be center right for a year or two. And here he is vearing hard right before he has even taken the oath of office.

I am more glad than ever that I voted for Cynthia McKinney.

Eh, not too shocked since if I recall Obama is anti-gay marriage himself (although I don't think he's anti-civil union?). I'm still willing to wait and see what the master plan all is, but booo anyway.

Please don't just hate on Tim Kaine. Kaine is a great choice in my opinion. I am a strong liberal and gay but I am annoyed by the way the far left tries to demonize the other side. It upsets me even more when the far-left demonizes the moderates and the majority of Americans. Tim Kaine represents the moderate movement in the democratic party that has helped the party re-connect with the average American.

Wow, I feel so alienated from the process right now - like all my work, money, and personal endorsement of Obama were really self-destructive and I didn't see it coming. I really misread him on the gay marriage thing - I thought he was just being pragmatic and that he would have a "change of heart" during his second term.

Ah yes a fine moderate is Mr. Kaine, besides opposing marriage equality he is also anti-choice. Just what we need, a move to accommodate the religous reich.

If Kaine can increase Democratic seats in Congress to a filibuster proof majority, I could care less what his "personal" views are. He does not hold the central position of most Democrats. However, if he can produce Democratic Congressman from backwoods hellholes like Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, etc. then more power to him! You're not going to get pinko, leftist, liberals from states like that, so we need someone that can appeal to their populations. And this post is coming from a pinko, leftist, liberal who is personally against "Gay" marriage. To be honest I'm against the entire patriarchal institution for both Gays and Straights. It's a demeaning religious rite that has no place in a supposedly religiously separatist democracy.

Michael, Thanks Michael but liberals are not against choice. If you don't want to be married, your choice is not to get married. Don't be against me having the choice. It is a civil right, not religious as I want to get married at city hall. Don't be a fascist.

Yikes. I wonder if my gut feeling is becoming more the reality... (that being that Obama will be too busy or occupied with other world agendas to really affect change for LGBT rights).

Just another reason not to relax.

The state adopted marriage from the church. It IS a religious rite. What is wrong with living in a committed relationship without all the beauracratic and/or religious bullshit? Just so you can prove to everyone that you're really in love? Give me a break. And by the way, I am certainly NOT fascist, Mr./Ms. Anonymous. I am an ardent anti-capitalist, and if you'll actually take a look at the meaning of the word Fascism, you will find that it is the belief that government power should lie in the hands of corporatism. As a matter of fact, America is a fascist state. Unfortunately, the line between Fascism and Nazism became blurred (with plenty of help from the United States) during World War 2.
