"Saddlebacking" is a new term to describe the phenomenon of Christian teens engaging in unprotected anal sex in order to preserve their virginities. The term has been created by Dan Savage to show the person being ridden has been saddled - thanks to the efforts of Rick Warren of the Saddleback Church and others like him who espouse religious hang-ups and serious misconceptions about sex.

This is disturbing on many counts. That we are so shamed by our sexuality we would do things not otherwise in our nature to assuage the guilt.
I think the stigma placed on sexuality by the religious right is wrong. But I also think we don't appreciate the beauty and connection that sex can bring. It is more than masturbating with a partner.

OMG!!! Back oh about 14 years or so I worked
with a girl who was engaged and she wanted
to keep her virginity and did that!
She was also against homosexuality....
Go figure....

I'm a college health educator. I saw this behavior over 10 years ago amongst my students (at a Catholic university)...we just didn't have a name for it other than "high risk" and "stupid".
WOW! Talk about self delusions and misconceptions about remaining "technically" a "virgin." WHEW! Way beyond the "spirit" of the whole thing. Crazy times!
