The K-12 sub-committee in the Tennessee General Assembly is going to decide this Wednesday 3/11 whether to advance bill HB0821 which would ban all mention of homosexuality in schools. Many schools implement diversity training at age appropriate levels to teach kids respect for same-sex headed families, and educate about tolerance towards LGBT people.
This bill would ensure curriculum prohibits the teaching of or furnishing of materials on human sexuality other than heterosexuality in public school grades K-8.
Please act swiftly to urge legislators to vote down this effort. Our children need to be taught diversity, tolerance and respect for all kinds of people and families at age-appropriate levels.

Where do we send our boxes of sand so the lawmakers of TN have an adequate supply for "sticking in their heads?" It is good to know that ingorance is alive and well.
You know what. Someone's getting an angry frothy-mouthed email today.
you show em girl
TN gives me rage vision. That doesn't even make any goddamn sense--being a product of our silly educational system and now tutoring in it, blinding the kids even MORE to the dreaded real world is the LAST thing we need to be doing and they KNOW it.
/rant *sigh*
This sounds like it will be thrown out in court on First Amendment grounds if it passes.
wait, i have a question: does this apply just to teachers teaching in the classrooms, or to students as well, so that students would not be able to even mention their boy/girlfriends without fear of retribution?
if it only applies to classroom teaching, i'm a little torn regarding whether or not this is a bad thing. in our case, we have had teachers devote entire CLASS PERIODS to railing against homosexuality and talking about how evil and wrong it is - yes, in classes where my daughter has to sit there with her mouth shut and take it. over and over and over again. so, in some instances, having the teachers shut up about it would actually be an improvement in our lives. just sayin.
Well the bill is going to debated next year now but from what I understand it would ban any mention of it by teachers. If it would rule out anti-gay talk from teachers, and anti-gay language with students that would be a plus, but this bill is absurd.
