Queer Buycott - Campbell's Soup

The anti-gay hate group, the American Family Association has called for a boycott of Campbell's Soup over their recent ads featuring LGBT people and families.

So, in response we are calling for a buycott and are urging pro-equality consumers to praise the company for showing a commitment to diversity. Your calls, letters, and emails are needed in the face of the thousands who have called the company with disapproving words.

I re-worded the call to action sent by the AFA:

  • After sending your email, please call Campbell Soup Company (800-257-8443) and their Swanson division (1-800-442-7684) and let the company know you will continue to support them because of their gay and lesbian ads.
  • Forward this e-mail to your friends and family so they will know about Campbell's support of equality and LGBT issues.

thanks for sharing this. I just told my mom about it. I can't stand groups like AFA and Focus on the Family. Groups like that try to break up families by isolating the gay on as a threat to the family, but I am just a part of a family and society as my heterosexual sister is.

Exactly, we are every bit as "pro-family" as they claim to be, only difference is we don't misuse the term.

I would also suggest calling/visiting your local grocer and requesting that they carry the full line of Campbells/Swanson products since the boycoters will be wanting the grocers to stop offering them.

Hey Q.U., I think the email address linked to there may be wrong.

Is it missing the 'p' in Campbells?

Campbell soup is doing the right thing.God bless them for that.

To anyone reading this from Campbell Soup the Ummm Good Company remember this. t

These right wing bigot churches are always up to something.
They tried to boycott Ford, Disneyland, and a number of other companies because these companies are trying to do the right thing and reach out to ALL families.

None of their stupid boycotts ever made a dent in these comp. business.

Hang in there Campbell we love you for what your doing, and Oh by the way your soup is pretty damn good too. Ummm Good.

Scot that is hillarious, thank you for noticing! I just changed it. I copied it from the AFA site, so hopefully they have it wrong and don't correct it LOL!

This is why I'm NOT
DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL....
On Christmas day while we
were having a nice Chistmas lunch
and talking about homemade chicken
soup my father blurts out that
he will not buy CAMPBELLS ever
again because they support same sex
marriage....I stopped eating and
wanted to walk away from the table
but it would have ruined things
for my son....I was bitting my
tongue....Needless to say I went off
about it with my mom and she sees things
from both sides but I don't wanna
talk to my father...He will never understand.

I WILL BUY CAMPBELLS SOUPS!

TACKLE YOU HUGS!!!!!!!

Great campaign idea Q.U. - I heard about this but haven't had the time yet to look into it a little deeper.

Thanks for the info - I'll be posting this on my blog tomorrow. Wanna get as many people as possible to participate in this.

Also - Cath - excellent idea about local grocers - I'm going to include that suggestion in my blog too. Thanks.

Thanks Steve, with the thousands of emails they are getting from angry wingnuts, we gotta pitch in our 2 cents of thanks.

Also consider donating Campbells products to local food banks for the needy to increase our impact.

QU - I tried sending an email but just kept getting the message "Result: No CAPTCHA was viewed" so...

I just want to check a couple of things before I post the buycott story on my blog.

First - is QU calling for the buycott?

Second - did you coin the word "buycott"

Please reply by email (stevekrotz@cox.net) ASAP.

Thanks for your help,
Steve

I am Campbell's Soup employee in Camden, NJ and I wanted to share with everyone how much I appreciate your support of my employer and my livelihood. While I am not LGBT myself, I have great appreciation for Campbell's support of diversity, which extends well beyond this ad campaign.

Campbell's sponsors an employee affinity network called "OPEN" for LGBT employees. Our employee newsletter recently featured several employees from the "OPEN" network telling their stories about coming out in the workplace and to their parents. Campbell's received a perfect 100 on a recent third-party audit in large measure because it provides full benefits to domestic partners. Diversity is front and center in our annual report every year.

Thanks for your support and keep buying Swanson Broths and Canned Chicken, Campbell Soups, V8 Beverages and Soups, Prego Pasta Sauce, Pace Picante Sauce and Pepperidge Farm and Arnott's Cookies.

Hey, well thanks for stopping by and for being an ally to our community. While you are here, maybe you can tell the higher ups to have more vegan/vegetarian options and organic stuff :)
