An "anthrosexual" is a person who is attracted to humans regardless of their gender identity/expression. The term avoids referencing a particular sexual orientation or predilection towards a particular gender.

But...no aliens? :/
(sorry I had to go there, I actually really like this term)
i have also heard "sapiosexual."
well I suppose it is a little more clear than pansexual (though both have issues... pan- as a root could be subverted to include sexual attraction to ANYTHING, anthro- as a root could include anything humaniod, and they both mix greek and latin roots, so you can still print the same amusing t-shirts as for polyamory)
My boyfriend would be classified an "Anthrosexual" and the fact that there is acknowledgement of these individuals I know would make him feel much more understood. Thank you for this post.

O.o how many words are there for what basically is, being attracted to both sexes? Jeeze...
Another word!! Who sits around in queer studies making up new words. Let's get real and do something.
"Who sits around in queer studies making up new words"
Everyone?
I mean, that's the reason there are queer studies. Because our life experiences have gone unnamed for generations, thus needing new names.
Also, he's not making the names out of thin air. All of these are pre-existing terms.
Your comment is like sitting in a biology class wondering why the teacher is just making up new words like mitochondria and mendelian inheritance instead of getting out there and teaching some real science. The words power the movement, our description of ourselves to others are the movement, because in the end truth wins.
cerebus i love your last line, beautifully said. besides, sharing our words doesn't negate activism, why can't we do both? discussing these identities and adjectives is also a form of activism in itself.
How is this different from Pansexual? x
Lulz if you want to get real and go do something go fucking do it. Why is there just random drama every so often over a word of the gay? It's just a word & I think it's pretty neat that I can come here to QU and find out about them, not bitch about people not doing anything for _____. Silly anonymouses!
And as far as I can tell it's only different from pansexual in that it specifies HUMAN like first Anonymous said. Although of course you wouldn't expect a pansexual to be attracted to trees or anything.
trees haha. i know some hippies who are quite attracted to them trees.
@anon #3
because the terms (pan/anthro- sexual) are base on inclusion of more than just common sex/gender sterotypes? as an over repeated example, not everyone fits into those neat categories, IS, GQ, and even TS (depending on who you ask) can all fall outside those tidy boxes.
@lauren:
not much really, it just requires less explanation to the general public.
It's still WRONG though. Attraction between and consenting individuals is fine, but mixing greek and latin roots? WRONG
Anon#1 (aka X)
meh. i dont particularly care about the roots of it. I just want to know what exactly my sexuality is called. :/
