Yes On Equality - 2010 Marriage Equality Initiative!

The new 'Yes on Equality' campaign has learned from the mistakes of the prop 8 battle, the protests, etc. They are starting early with their campaign to put an initiative on the 2010 ballot to legalize same-sex marriage in California. The group has an online petition, and will be working hard to mobilize people to overturn prop 8.

Sign the petition to support the invalidation of proposition 8.

Sherri Shepherd "Struggles" With Whether LGBT People Deserve Equal Rights

11/10 Update: Thanks to your activism and the activism of GLAAD and Ellen DeGeneres the show was held accountable for the outright lies spread by Sherri Shepherd on prop 8. Also, one thing that keeps irritating me is that this show is supposed to be informative. They talked about the gay adoption ban, in the last program they said they thought it was in Nebraska, well on today's program they said that as if it were factual. The adoption ban was in Arkansas, if you want people to take the show seriously, get the facts straight. I wish Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck would keep their religious viewpoint out of the political debate on civil rights.

H/T to Good As You for the video.

11/8 Sherri Shepherd one of the co-hosts of "The View" of ABC spread a lot of misinformation about marriage equality and prop 8. She talks of her "pastor possibly being jailed" for speaking against homosexuality. She also said that gay issues are something she "struggles" with because she has gay friends. She "doesn't want rights being taken away" but she says she is a "christian and believes marriage is between a man and a woman."

Contact Sherri Sheperd over her anti-gay views.

No Tax Exemption For Political Churches!

The Mormon Church has instructed its members to donate to proposition 8 to ban same-sex marriage in California. Nearly half the money (20 million dollars) came in from Mormon Church members predominantly from Utah.

According to IRS Law:

"Section 501(c)(3) describes corporations, and any community chest, fund, or foundation, organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literacy, or educational purposes, or to foster national or international amateur sports competition (but only if no part of its activities involve the provision of athletic facilities or equipment), or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals, no part of the net earnings of which inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual, no substantial part of the activities of which is carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting, to influence legislation (except as otherwise provided in section (h)), and which does not participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distribution of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office."

Sign the petition asking the IRS to revoke the Mormon Church's Tax Exempt status.

Republicans Against 8: "It's Backwards"

New video from Republicans Against 8 fighting the California "marriage protection" amendment.

A Beautiful Display of Non-Violent Queer Resistance!

"The Proposition 8 battle is being fought on the street in San Jose. After one family claims a 'Yes on 8' sign was stolen from their front yard, they replaced it with a huge banner on the front of their house.

Supporters of marriage equality then parked an SUV directly in front of the house with a sign and arrow on the windshield, indicating "Bigots Live Here."

I applaud the efforts of these anonymous activists. They are exercising their right to free speech and displaying a non-violent form of resistance against our oppressors.

No On 8 Rally Today at Old Town Salinas

What: Silent Witness - No on 8 Visibility Event

Why: We are gathering during the Traditional Family Values Parade to raise awareness about the importance of voting no on Proposition 8.

If approved, Prop 8 will eliminate the right to marry for same-sex couples.

We support family values and respect for all. For these reasons, we are calling on the Salinas Valley to Vote No on Prop 8.

Instructions:
Please arrive at the Cherry Bean at 1:15 pm.

Organizers will provide participants with plenty of No on 8 gear - signs, stickers, etc.

You will also be given important training to prepare for the rally.

It is recommended that you dress in your Sunday best (there will be TV cameras).

Please bring your friends and family.
