I wish I lived there b/c I'd go! GID needs to be removed from the DSM, it was a shitty trade off for the removal of homosexuality and the gays have done little to nothing to support the removal of GID and empower the human rights of transgender people... the LGBT community can do better when it comes to helping each other!

'Gender Identity Disorder' should be seen by the LGBT community as an extension of the pathology of queer identity. Gays have been de-pathologized, but GID is the "extreme sissy disorder" it is really ridiculous.

The American Pirate Association. Money, money, money. It does not matter to them the cost of human dignity, freedom or life.

I see France is removing GID from the list of mental disorders. It may take a while before we begin to see others follow suite, but sounds like a step in the right direction...

I don't mean to insult anyone, but how is this a mental disorder? I thought it was only a genetic disorder? o.o

Mewi I think it is mental in the sense that gender identity is in the brain. Our genitals don't define our gender identity. It isn't a psychological disorder, people are born this way. I wouldn't call it a biological or genetic disorder, just because it's different from the norm doesn't make it disordered, it is just a variation of the human condition.

Reflected I am very happy to hear about France, on the International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia, great news!
