Where was Moveon.org during the proposition 8 battle, where have they been on any efforts to fight discrimination against LGBT people? The so called "progressive" organization has been silent and refuses to represent our community.
We have had several action alerts urging Moveon to take a stand for marriage equality, to support LGBT issues. They have remained silent, likely due to their attempt to broaden their base.
If moveon doesn't care about queers, why should queers donate a penny to Moveon? There are tons of true progressive organizations, such as the Courage Campaign and the ACLU who do fight for our rights.
Let Moveon know that their refusal to support LGBT rights, translates into a loss of a powerful constituency.

Vote for Gay Rights/LGBT Issues To Be On 2009 Agenda At MoveOn.org
Queers United has been waging a campaign to get MoveOn.org a large grassroots progressive organization to focus on and to fight on behalf of LGBT equality. Moveon has been instrumental in the fight for progressive issues and in their efforts to elect Barack Obama, their voice is loud and they are a powerful constiuency.
Up until now, MoveOn has neglected LGBT issues, now is our chance!
LGBT rights made the MoveOn top ten goals for 2009. Please vote to make it the top issue for MoveOn in 2009.

Queers United stands firmly in support of Barack Obama for president because of his principles of fairness and equality for all citizens. Barack Obama is rated 89% by the Human Rights Campaign (indicating a pro-gay rights voting record). In contrast John McCain is rated 33% by HRC (indicating a mixed gay rights voting record).

Too Butch for Primetime!
It appears the television network MSNBC is presenting the LGBT community a double edged sword this evening. Rachel Maddow openly lesbian political commentator is getting a prime time slot to air her progressive ideological viewpoint. This is great not only as a way for members of our community to be in the public spotlight but also to take on the neo-cons ie: Pat Buchanan and the like who are anti-gay.
Here is the problem...
"MSNBC loves the chatter of liberal pundit Rachel Maddow, but not her look. Maddow, who's getting her own show, is being subjected to a network makeover. A source says an entire "glam squad" has been hired for the openly gay Maddow, and she has been asked not to wear her Drew Carey-esque glasses again. There's even talk of "putting her in a skirt." We're sure that'll do the trick. A rep for the channel didn't return e-mails."(NY Post)
There has been speculation all over the place. Some are suggesting this is an attempt by the NY Post (owned by Rupert Murdoch of Fox News) to damage MSNBC. Politely message MSNBC making sure Rachel Maddow can present as she likes and let them clarify what their position is.

Spread the Word: Asexual Educational Pamphlets
Here are some FREE pamphlets about Asexuality that can be printed out and distributed for public knowledge. Please check them out to educate yourself, and leave a trail of these at school, your local library, LGBT or any community center, and house of worship.
Spreading the word about Asexuality not only helps people learn about a sexual orientation many are unaware of but you may even potentially reach someone who felt isolated or in the closet with their own Asexuality.

Support Anti-Discrimination Legislation in Ohio

"In Ohio it is legal to:
* Fire someone if they are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender
* Deny them a place to live if they are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender
* Force them to leave a restaurant if they are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender
In Ohio, it's legal -- even though more than two-thirds of Ohio voters support passage of legislation that would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

Today, a bipartisan group of legislators has introduced a bill to ban this type of LGBT legislation. State Senator Ray Miller and State Representatives Jon Peterson and Dan Stewart are optimistic, that Ohio will become the 21st state to update its laws and make our state a place where everyone feels at home."

"On Tuesday, June 10th, primary voters will be asked to sign a petition supporting a referendum that would strip basic protections from LGBT Mainers and their families.
Voters have every right to sign that petition. But we want them to know what they're really signing: a measure that would
* Erase all the non-discrimination protections we've fought so hard to win
* End funding for school civil rights teams, which have played a vital role in combating harassment of all kinds
* Prohibit unmarried couples from jointly adopting, a move that would threaten the best interest of children
We also want to offer a better choice for fair-minded Mainers to sign: a statement of support for equality for all people in this state.
