Gay Marriage: Just The Facts!

I am opposed to "gay marriage". Marriage is historically an institution intended to protect "the legal rights" of children. If one takes religion out of the equation; historically, those great societies of western culture, Greece and Rome, who had no anti-gay sexual bias, never granted civil marriage to homosexual couples. There was no need since homosexual couples cannot bear their own children. The state's interest was preserving the state with productive new citizens and protecting the inheritance of the same. This all occurred before the codification of Christianity into the Roman State and it's theological basis. Yes, there should be "civil contracts" for homosexual couples but not "marriage". When same sex couples can physically carry their own children, they the topic can be revisited.

Marriage is historically the union of a man and several wives (polygamy) that is biblical marriage. Gay people cannot biologically have children, but they do adopt and have artificial insemination. Older straight people can't have kids too, should we ban their marriages?

So you want marriage to be limited to people who can "carry" children? So lesbian couples can "carry" kids, ie there marriage should be ok right?

It hurts so much to have just been discriminated against for being a lesbian and I wonder why are people so afraid of GLBT? Does it really matter if we marry. Is it going to hurt them?

Anonymous said...

Yes..stay the hell away from social security and joint insurance policies.

im not gay but i think gay marriage is asume and it shouldnt matter if they get married as long as the love each other its just fine.

i have to write a paper against gay marriage :(
myself is hetero but i feel like what i've had to learn is disapointing

Queers United said...

Why do you have to write a paper against gay marriage? What is this for? If you are in school, it seems absurd that a professor forces you to take one side.

Anonymous said...

Hey, guys. Im writing a paper too on gay marriage and I'm all for it so could you guys help me? My teacher isn't forcing me too do this topic or take this side, but I feel everybody deserves justice. Any help would be appreciated!

I think everybody should have a chance no matter what no im not gay but i have friends and family that are and everyone should have a chance shit why do everybody care anyway its not like there getting married to the person they dont have anything to do with it gay people gay marriage or what gay ppeople do so everybody should just relax and focus on there problems and what there do thats wrong in there life or in there own house hold.

I don't understand the problem, even if you are a conservative Christian. I'm pretty sure the Holy Bible I read displayed Adam & Eve in the garden of Eden with a tree God told them never to eat from. Last I read God gave Adam & Eve free will to choose to eat the fruit or to be obey his commands and they ate it anyway. Even if you believe homosexuality is a sin, shouldn't a homosexual individual be entitled to the same free will to sin that Adam & Eve were granted.

ok people, i'm doing a project for school on legalizig gay marriage.
i'm a straight, boy obsesed teenage girl. typically thought to be very judgemental, right?
and guess what! i think gay marriage should totally be legalized. people who use religion as an excuse to dislike it, since when did GOD give us a reason to discriminate against people. religion is suposed to teach you about love.
to those who say they can't have children, yes they can! they can adopt.
so many people are looking for love, we should be happy that they have finally found it!
love is love, thats all you can really ask for.

love and peace.

People should just look at the fatc and reflect. Countries where gay marriage is legal and have been for a while are usually countries with a very low unemployment rate, a very stable goverment and economy and more importantly very high education rate. What does that tell you? As I straight man from Sweeden, looking at what happened in California I wonder how many of the people that voted for prop 8 could actually read it.
Think people that's what makes you different from animals.

If you love someone, it shouldn't matter what the race, sex, or religion is.

I don’t hate gay people, in fact I know a couple of them and I think they’re pretty cool. About this issue of gay marriage, I would prefer if it stayed the traditional way (between a man and a woman). If we take religion out of this matter and we focus on a future perspective and the effects of legalizing gay marriage, I personally think it would not be good for the people. First, it would create a lot of confusion. If gay marriage is allowed the future generations who will come after us will be stuck in a place of no gender definition. The children would see this as normal and ordinary, switching genders would be something that they would not put much thought to because by that time it would be widely accepted. Second, homosexuals are going against nature, obviously same sex partnership is not meant to be and we all know why. On the other hand, I understand why gays want to be married. Gays believe that marriage is a human right and they are fighting for equality. But if we really think about it “Is the legalization of gay marriage worth risking the future generations that as a result may be trapped in a world wide society of all homosexuals?” PEACE

Whether gay marriage is allowed or not, gay people will still be gay and have their partners, allowing gay marriage doesn't create gay people.

I am glad you know gay people, but you should allow them to have the same basic civil rights that you do. Marriage is about joint tax returns, co-adoption, and visiting a loved one in a hospital.

Marriage has evolved from being a man and many wives which the bible advocates to a woman being considered property. Now it is about love and financial commitment. Gay couples should be allowed.

I am against Gay Marriage and do not believe it is a civil right for gays to be married. I do have compassion for their struggle, but why pressure the government to allow it. If you feel so strongly about it, why not force the industries that limit your inclusions into hospitals, insurance, etc. to adopt new policies so you can enjoy the benefits.

I would also like to add that everywhere you read comparisons in relationships between gay unions and traditional marriage, the seperation rates for traditionals is higher. Why even bother with jeopardizing your relationship by getting married. We've all heard the saying, "Everything was great for 5 years, then we got married!"

i support gay marriage because everyone should be able to marry who they would like to.

so i myself am a trans man (born in a female body but now a male...(for thise who didn't know) i have two wonderful children that i gave birth to 3 and 6 years ago. just because two people cannot reproduce naturally does not mean that they are not in love. there are infertal couples all around the world but they still get married. reproduction has nothing to do with marriage. marriage is a ceramony proclaiming that two individuals are so in love with eachother they want nothing more then to spend the rest of their lives together. if you dont like gay marriage...dont have one.

Hey im doing a paper on gay marriage too and by the way im not gay. But i am fowarded because its nothing wrong with it. If they wanna be gay and get marry then so be it . Plus gays are cool and you can talk to them about anything and everything.

I LOVE gay people!

To the person who said being gay was unnatural: could you stop being straight on a whim? Could you just "decide" to be attracted to the same sex if you wanted to? I doubt it. Sexual attraction between two people is a biochemical reaction. Not a decision.

To the person who said marriage started as a way to raise children: negative. It started out as a means for a father to pass his daughter on to another man (her husband). It was usually a financial agreement between the two families.

About gender definition being ousted: GOOD! Gender roles tell us what boys and girls can and cannot do based on whether they're XX or XY. Gender definition has no place in a progressive society.

I want to marry the man I love...and I'm going to as soon as we get our planning done! A gay man should be able to do the same.

I'm not gay.. But; I've supported Gay Marriage for many, many years. No, it's not goin to hurt anyone if gays marry. They might not beable to get pregnant but.. Lesbians can get artificial insemination, and Gays can go adopt kids. It's as easy as that! If we can say "Under God" even though it conflicts with people's believe of reliogn, then why can't gays get married?? I just don't get it...SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE!!!!

What is the point in not legalizing gay marriage? I mean, gay couples are still going to be gay and together. Don't they have a right to be happy too? Preamble to the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among these are life, liberty, and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS." There are way too many kids that need good homes, why is a heterosexual home better than a homosexual one? Generally, in a gay couple, one partner will take on the role of the woman and one will take the role of the man- the difference is only skin-deep.

same sex marriage is a legal marriage that is done by the stae and the state passes the laws not the church (sorry god) and it is a civil right not a religilus right... i am straight and i live in NYC so the problem with gays is not not here, how ever there are some dickheads who oppose it but it ok NYC cali and other states the supporte same sex and do have a large # of gays are close to the ideal society for same sex

Have you noticed the language used by those in favor of gay marriage? Every comment on this post up until mine that uses gross profanity is from someone in favor of gay marriage. Besides the complete ignorance that it shows, it also shows a lack of virtue that is becoming more and more prevalent in society all in the name of relativism. I'm opposed to gay marriage out of a moral obligation to uphold a virtuous society. Anyone that has seriously studied the founding of this nation and our founding documents knows that the principles of our REPUBLIC (not democracy) were instituted for a moral society. James Madison, the author of the Constitution, said, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." As soon as our society starts down the slippery slope of accepting sex perversion as a societal norm is when the Constitution starts being torn apart. As a result of our Constitution being trampled in the name of so-called "civil rights," the freedoms that are guaranteed to Americans will be denied by a tyrannical government. Understanding what holds a truly free society together is far more important and relevant than spouting out feelings and hate by attacking those that have opposing view points with profanity. I can recall that every American at some point has pledged their allegiance to our flag which represents our great nation. Remember that we are one nation under God.

Problem with gay marriage is you can use equality argument for other types of marriage, like an incestuous marriage for instance, or a polygamous marriage. There is a good reason you would not want to allow incestuous marriage or relationship for that matter.

I think that everyone should have the right to marry whoever the hell makes them happy, if you don't like it, tough...they should have all the same marriage rights as heterosexual couples and to judge someone else because they don't have your same exact beliefs is constitutionally wrong. What about the pursuit of happiness??? It is so petty to quarrel over someone elses life that doesn't have shit to do with yours. If it weren't for Christianity, it would be okay...the whole damn religion is a control scam anyways...Be happy with the person who makes you happy...let them burn in their own hell!!!!

I'm doing a school project where I run for class president at my school. One of the things I'm going to talk about is gay marriage. I hope that all the people who are against it in my school can broaden their ideas about what it is. I hope that some of the statistics that I present will help them to realize that it's not a bad thing. It's just two people who love each other and want to show it, legally. If you're against gay marriage, then you don't have to be in a gay marriage. Don't push your beliefs on other people, it's not polite.

Waiting On The World To Change

Pushing beliefs on people goes both ways.
If someone is not willing to take your side, deal with it. because even though i have religious reasons for my beliefs i am not dissappioned if people do not take my side, it is their decision what they believe.

What i am against is the slander that is happening now against religions like my own. many peers mock the reasons that i may have for my arguments during our prepreation for debate, they say very hurtful things, and do the teachers do anything about it? NO. becuase that would be hinting at a religious agenda! or it could be taking away their right to freedom of speech! (does that include slander against someone in a school setting?) i thought schools had rules about discrimination. dont just accuse believers in "discriminating" against gays, because everyone else is "discriminating" against us. a sterio type has been made of people who are against gay rights and for the most part it is not true, and very hurtful.

gays are not the only victims, but since our society's view is that the gays ARE the only victims, noone seems to notice the amount of painful religious discrimination that is going on all around the country and in our public schools; where people should feel free to believe what they believe. soon teachers and the mass of young liberals are going to make such an opressing environment for conservatives, that it will soon drown out our voices. (which i am sure many people are hoping for) but that is why this is such a hot topic.

i feel that this makes a very unhealthy environment, since my teachers and peers are pushing a gay agenda, when i firmly believe otherwise. what happened to freedom of religion? they have their freedom of not having a religion, but does that give them the right to attack my freedom of HAVING a religion? I certainly dont attack them.
i dont want my kids going to school one day being told that everything i have taught them is wrong, and that if you are in a religion against gay rights all you are is a prejudice jerk.

i do have gay friends and i love them with all my heart. they respect my beliefs, and i respect their decisions. pushing a religion on someone only turns them off to it even more.

just like some may say, "being gay is who the person is"... well... "a Christain is who i am"... and nothing will change that.

Anon you can imagine what gay christians must be going through. Although many churches are coming to see that Jesus affirmed gay people and that scripture is pro-gay.

Anonymous said...

there cannot be any such thing as a true gay christian. if so they are completely blind to the fact that even though the scripture does say that God loves all people, (including gays, adulterers, murderers, terrorists, (heck he loved hitler)) does not mean that he condones their behavior. "Christains" that say that God is for gays are not looking at the whole picture. They take the bits of scripture that they like and throw out others, hence a new religion "gay-christianity". our society will keep dumming down religions (not just christianity) like this, to fit their own needs, making people like me look like extremeists, when 20 years ago we were the liberals.
do you see a pattern?
Comparing the Holy Bible to what they call their bible, would only expose the editing and erasing of the scripture.
its not right for people to change scripture and religions based on their own needs and feelings. historically hasnt it been the religion that defined who the person was? not the person defining what the religion is?
I personally feel that if someone believes they are gay with all their heart, it would make no sense for them to proclaim themselves a "christain" it is the hugest oxymoron. i dont see why they would WANT to.
the sad fact is that the goal is to reverse the oxymoron, and proclaim it a truth.
i have no problem with gay people, what i do have a problem with is when they try to redefine the basis of religion to make themselves more acceptable.
You can look and look but not one sentence in the bible permits gay behavior (until someone finds the nerve to change it of course)

Queers United said...

First off there is a disctinction between religious marriage and civil marriage. Churches can decide whether to permit same-sex marriage and that is their right. Anyone against civil marriage however is a bigot because all couples regardless of religion should be entitled to government benefits.

As for religion Jesus clearly stated that gays attain the Kingdom of God.

“He that is able to receive it,” [Jesus’ statement about marriage] “let him receive it.” 19:12.

Matthew 19:11-12
Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage[a]because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."

Born eunuchs are gays, made ones were castrated, and ones who chose were celibate for God.
