The Ad Council and Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN) has released a new public awareness ad calling on people to stop saying "that's so gay."

I really wish that this video could get a national audience during an event like the super bowl. If I had the resources I would pay the millions to make it happen. Thanks for GLSEN and Queers United for getting this out there!!

They should do one with guys saying, "That's so gay." Last week, I was at the open mike at Little Joy in Echo Park and these two dudes were starting to argue and someone said, "Fighting is gay."
Then the other night, I had to correct my friend the other night when we went drinking.
It seems like whenever a friend answers their cell phone, I hear them say, "Dick...that's so gay."
It's funny. My friends who voted against Proposition 8 are the same ones who use that saying. I keep on correcting them and educating them on LGBT worldwide issues. There's no sense in dropping a friend when you can educate them and help them to understand why employing the word "gay" to describe something bad is like kicking someone who's already down.
They might empathize when they can understand, especially when the advice is coming from their friend.

I agree that there needs to be one with guys, I don't think I've seen one at least. I get a little nitpicky when people go "Ohmigoose that's so gay!" I usually just look at them funny and suggest a different adjective.

Like Anon 4:38PM, my friends that do that are the ones that voted/would have voted against Prop 8 and generally support LGBT rights, but seem to not see that using "gay" as a negative adjective is, uh, bad.

there was one with guys, if you guys search the top of the blog with wanda sykes you will find her PSA with it.

go to monitter.com and check on twitter stream for the key word gay. At least half the posts are the that's so gay meme. Pathetic.

On youtube.com, a lot of the comments posted in response to the PSA, which features Wanda Sykes, are pretty harsh. Oh well. They were probably made by adolescent boys who are so lazy and socially impotent that they have to resort to repulsive behavior and say comments like, "That video is so gay." It's a shame that I have to see negative comments when I look at gay-friendly videos on youtube.com.

Gay: Means happy, think of something better to call yourselves, if anyone should complain about us changing the meaning of gay to stupid, then the original person that made the word gay to mean happy should be complaining about you guys turning gay into a person that likes the same sex, people that like the same sex are called homosexual, NOT Gay. so please stop telling people to KNOCK IT OFF.... Its rather rude to tell people to stop using their slang. I repeat SLANG...
