IOWA LEGALIZES GAY MARRIAGE!

The Iowa Supreme Court has unanimously voted to support gay marriage, making Iowa the third state in the country and first state in the midwest to have legal gay marriage. Information is hard to access as the site is down because of the number of hits, if it loads the opinion is available at the Iowa Supreme Court Website.

Iowa state law does not require couples who marry within the state to be Iowa residents, so out of state couples will be allowed to receive a marriage license.

Opponents of gay marriage would have to amend the state constitution in order to eliminate this newly given right. If the 2010 legislature endorses the idea, November 2012 would be the earliest that Iowans could vote on any possible constitutional amendment.

BRAVO to Heartland USA!

Could this be the tipping point? Let's hope so.

Let us hope and act towards making sure this lasts and spreads; such that living a life that is true to oneself no longer warrants discrimination and prejudice.

What's next Legalizing sodomy in the Boy Scouts? My God how far we have drifted away from truth. God smite this land! Shame on us!!!

Anonymous 1: I will refer to you as "Judas". And Jesus weeps for you. "Smite this land".. "legalize sodomy in boy scouts"... And who's truth are you talking about? Shame on you for your hatred, unkind, mindless thoughts! It is your free will and choice to stand in judgment, but do not stand behind God. For if you truly believe in Jesus and his teachings he would be weeping more for you, and for your arrogance and aggressions. This world is full of enough hatred, murders, rapists, child molesters, which statically would be a heterosexual and some married. Clean up your divorce rates, homes, churches and prisons. And then stand in judgment of who I choose to commit my love/life too. If you truly believe, there are many more pressing issue to take to Jesus. Let other people live, love as they choose to "Judas". I'm certain Jesus still loves you.

Guys there is a great LGBT civil rights organization called the Empowering Spirits Foundation. They are very creative in how they approach this hot topic issue of gay marriage, in that they engage in service oriented activities in communities typically opposed to equal rights to foster thought and change for LGBT equality.

A friend of mine told me about it and I thought it was a great, positive approach to the issue. We had so much fun at the last event and it was great to give back to the community. Plus it was great to converse with others on the other side of the table in a way that wasn't confrontational.

Anyway, this can be such a heated issue and I thought this was a unique approach.

I never thought it would happen right here in the Heartland...it's not like we're on one of the coasts!

I, though not for the 1st time, am ashamed to be an Iowan. It really isn't fair that a decision that important was made without even asking the people who reside here what they think about it. Talk about taxation without representation!!!

And before you ask, yes, I'm a Christian. That, and that alone gives me the power to forgive the idiots who made this decision and all the sinners who will take advantage of it, desperately grasping at anything that will make their sin seem right.

You need to remember, though, that same sex marriage is like abortion: just because a nation ruled by sinners says that it is ok doesn't mean that God says it is.

Some of the commenters expressed it well. This is about equality more than anything else. I was really surprised when I first heard about Iowa recognizing same-sex marriage, the trend is going in the right direction.
