1/24 UPDATE: KABC TV in Los Angeles says it will air a public service announcement that it initially deemed too controversial to air during President Barack Obama's inauguration.
The PSA will run this Sunday during Extreme Makeover: Home Edition at about 9:15 p.m. Five ads were produced to counter discrimination in the aftermath of the passage of California's Proposition 8, which rescinded marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples in the state. (Advocate)
1/22 - Los Angeles Affiliate KABC-TV refused to air the Get To Know Us First Ads featuring gay and lesbian families during the inauguration, citing that it was too controversial.
KABC told Chris Yokogawa, the media buyer at New and Improved Media trying to place GetToKnowUsFirst.org's ads, that "many families will be watching," and that it was "controversial". "They were firm in their rejection,” Yokogawa says in a release. (PR Newswire)
KABC's president and general manager is Arnold J. Kleiner. The station lists their phone number as (818) 863-7777.

Jeez. That was truly messed up. How can saying we are just like you be considered too controversial? This makes me ill.
Another option that one can do is contact the FCC and file a complaint. Even though KABC-TV is private entity the airwaves which they use to make their money belong to the people and that means all the people.
So write the FCC and tell them that KABC-TV does not deserve the renewal of their FCC license since the airwaves belong to all people and KABC-TV is refusing to service all of the communities within their broadcast range. Tell the FCC that KABC-TV is doing a disservice to the people and the whole community.
Surprising! Usuall these medai leeches will do anything for money; wow, they must have some hatred eating at them!
I just e-mailed ABC7 regarding not showing the ads. If they're an equal opportunity employer, why don't they acknowledge diversity?

It's terribly saddening to know that an ABC affiliate would choose not to air advertisements from GetToKnowUsFirst.org. These are advertisements which show families, playing, praying, and living together. They are utterly indistinguishable from any other daytime TV content. They advocate people get to know other people before judging them, the subject of more ABC After School Specials than I can count. How very disappointing.
I just called the station and they told me that you guys werent willing to pay for the slot(s)???whats up? is that a blatent lie because i will call them back:)
You would have to contact get to know us, but it is beyond hard to believe, they wanted to pay they weren't allowed.
9:15PM? Jeez, could they bury it a little more.
That said I agree with the anon poster, the FCC should have been called in on this one.
It's very simple... If you don't pay for thetime-slots, your ad doesn't get aired. Period. By the way, the KABC-TV staff has many members from the gay/lesbian community.
