Comedian and same-sex marriage activist Wanda Sykes has announced today that she is gay and has married her partner. Wanda Sykes at a rally in Las Vegas today said:
"You know, I don't really talk about my sexual orientation. I didn't feel like I had to. I was just living my life, not necessarily in the closet, but I was living my life," Sykes told a crowd at a gay rights rally in Las Vegas on Saturday.Welcome aboard Wanda Sykes, you definitely make my list of top 3 funniest lesbian comics.
"Everybody that knows me personally they know I'm gay. But that's the way people should be able to live their lives," she said.
"Now, I gotta get in their face," she said. "I'm proud to be a woman. I'm proud to be a black woman, and I'm proud to be gay." (AP)

Holy shit for real? I always had a sneaking suspicion but my "gaydar" is wonky so I never know. That's great that she came out! Good on her.
That's right!!! Go Wanda!!! I was there and heard and saw her speak I am so proud!
Kind of dorky, I know, but I ADORED her voiceover work in Over The Hedge. I always have mixed feelings about "coming out" though, it's kind of sad - hets don't have to "come out". Maybe I'll break the barrier - OK *deep breath* - I'm in a heterosexual monogamous relationship. *whew* glad to have that off my chest.

I am very happy to see this happening. I saw her at the rally in Silver Lake. She is right, we can't afford to hide anymore. Celebrities need to be honest; they can do so much good. I'm getting a little tired of the closeted cowards. Listening Oprah? Ricky?

I wonder how this affects my own list of funniest lesbian comics. I suspect a couple in the top five just dropped down a notch.
