A "winkte" is a two-souled person in Lakota (Sioux) Native American culture. "Winktes" are gay medicine men and were regarded highly by the community.

Cool! We talked about winkte (and other people like them in some native american cultures) in my Women's Studies class, interestingly enough...
But aren't these people really transgendered?
anon yes but there are many different words even within the transgender umbrella.
