O'Reilly, Miller Falsely Suggested Obama Supported Prop 8

Fox News' Bill O'Reilly and Dennis Miller falsely suggested President Obama supported California's Proposition 8. After Miller described a call to his radio show in which the caller suggested that "had [Obama] been a California resident," he "would have voted for Proposition 8," O'Reilly stated that the caller "probably listened to The Radio Factor and then called you because we had said that." In fact, Obama opposed Proposition 8.

President Obama clearly stated at Saddleback that he felt that Marriage was between "One Man and One Woman." Much further on he said that he didn't support Prop 8 but he clearly signalled to anyone on the fence that it was OK to vote for it. He could have made the difference in California but instead chose to get votes in Kansas.

Now O'Really's just being sillier than normal. Obama's already said he doesn't support gay marriage (though he's fine with civil rights I guess) so unless that was just a party line he wouldn't have voted against Prop 8. What case is he trying to make here?

...well...what case is O Reilly ever trying to make.

Obama wrote an official letter to the LGBT Democratic Club stating he opposed it. Here's a quote from it:
"As the Democratic nominee for President, I am proud to join with and support the LGBT community in an effort to set our nation on a course that recognizes LGBT Americans with full equality under the law. That is why I support extending fully equal rights and benefits to same sex couples under both state and federal law. That is why I support repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy, and the passage of laws to protect LGBT Americans from hate crimes and employment discrimination. And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states."

And if that is not clarification enough, go to the official White House page where he states under the civil rights section:
"Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage: President Obama voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2006 which would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmarried couples."

If that isn't clear enough I don't know what is. Now he has flipped flopped on the issue, but read a reputable news source and not info from a religious site.

Obama while not actively discussing prop 8 did come out against it. I had received reports of emails bouncing back from Dennis Miller. I fixed something, hopefully it is ok now, let me know.

Let me just correct myself above real quick...I realized I said "he's fine with civil rights, I guess". It seems I got pwned by my own snark, I meant to say civil UNIONS. Wow, I should hope that everyone's okay with civil rights by now.

Also, Obama changed Bush's policies towards the decriminilization (sp?) of homosexuality at the U.N. He changed it so that homosexuality is no longer considered a crime.

if you read the first comment carefully you will see that i acknowledged that the President did oppose it but in quiet ways that very few people would find out about. when he had his largest audience, i.e. the saddleback forum, he threw his GLBTQ supporters under the bus - open your eyes - he is not naive - he is trying to have it both ways and you are enabling that.

Anon, Obama has not thrown LGBT under the bus, you have it wrong.
