Dallas, Texas Gay Bar Bans Drag Queens

"David Moore, co-owner of the Crews Inn, claims he can legally keep transgender people out of his gay bar on Fitzhugh Avenue in Dallas if their appearances don’t match their photo IDs.

A demonstration of solidarity from the community is planned for the 26th of July in front of Crews Inn at 10:00pm."

H/T to Planet Transgender for the story.

Aren't we all supposed to be in this together? Whatever happened to the ole "United we stand, divided we fall?"

So if you've recently lost 20 pounds and dyed your hair, it's legal to keep you out of a place since you don't look like your photo ID? I guess I should be kept out of places now that I've changed my glasses frames since moving and wear contacts half the time. What if you're just not real photogenic? (And nobody looks good on their photo IDs, anyway.)

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! Not to mention shamefully bigoted.

Mel - I certainly echo that sentiment, I don't get people like this bar owner.

Cracker - It is pure bigotry plain and simple, and it just saddens my heart that it is coming from within the community.

The half-logic of their "photo ID" thing just stunned me. Oh, they must've thought they had the drag queens there! Assholes. It always adds a special layer of disappointment to me when bigotry comes from within the community, too.

I will never understand why stigmatized bodies turn around and subject others to the same oppression that they face. You cannot expect solidarity and resepct if you are unwilling to give it.

cracker- the photo ID thing is scary, the whole notion of ID's especially a national ID weirds me out.

Renee - I whole heartedly agree!
